The next few days went by quickly. Alexander said he was going to give me a few days to try to figure things out, but he would be close by. I didn’t like the feeling that no matter what I did, someone would be hurt.

I knew that someone was Kilian. I just needed to rip off the bandaid. He was such a great father; I really have no clue how he is going to process this. I decided to plan on telling him tomorrow morning.

My daughters were going to be out of the house for the evening. Freya was going with Ingrid to a lock-in at the movie theater. Helga was taking her SAT’s tomorrow and staying at a friend’s house to study.

Knowing Kilian would be out of the house until after midnight, I decided to go perform a ritual to attempt to contact the goddess. I am pretty sure she knows what is going on, and if she thinks it’s funny, well, it’s not.

I wandered into the back yard with a blanket and some candles. I listed for Lex in human or wolf form. I went back to the same place we had lunch and set up my supplies. As I lit my herbs, I felt a wave of cedar hit me.

“Cedar and Sandalwood, always give you away.” I said softly, knowing he could hear me.

He didn’t respond, I knew he was respecting my project.

“Thank you for always protecting me, even when I haven’t been able to protect you.” I said extreme regret in my tone.

I heard a slight whimper come from him. He is in wolf form; I was relieved at the realization. I started to think he was avoiding me.

I drank the potion I had prepared and sat clearing my mind. I leaned back on the blanket allowing my spirit to enter the astral plane.

Many people refer to the realm as the place our souls go to when we sleep. Many witches have the abilities to access the realm and use it more directly. I had been practicing since I was 16 with Gunny. It made high school interesting.

I felt warmth cover my body and I looked back to see Lex’s beautiful grey wolf laying next to me. He put his head on my chest keeping his eyes open for danger.

I felt my memories begin to flood my mind. The potion should have granted me the ability to summon the Goddess Luna, why were my memories flooding my mind again?

One minute I was in a grand hall dancing and flirting with Alexander. I was then tossed into a horrible memory of being captured and held hostage by the King of the Outlaws.

Now I was in a different memory. But I couldn’t place it. The trees were an amazing green, like after a good rain but there didn’t seem to be any recent weather. The river was flowing down over the waterfall into the basin.

I marveled at the deer and smaller animals that were running around freely. The deer looked to be twice the size of the ones I had seen in my life. That was more the size of a buffalo.

“Hello Daughter, I’ve been waiting for you.” Her beautiful voice sounded around me.

I spun around trying to see who was speaking but came up empty. As I spun my body to head in the other direction, I froze seeing her.

Her white hair cascaded down her back past her hips. She had a beautiful white dress that hugged her figure to the ground. I was impressed to see she was barefoot.

“I am so happy you answered.” I said amazed.

“I received a message that Alexander was able to awaken your soul. Now it has begun.” She said sweetly.

“Our destiny? I thought it already had?” I was confused.

“All in preparation.” She said and I grew irritated.

“You mean to say nothing until now mattered?” I questioned.

“Daughter, do not think you are free to speak to me like that.” She reminded me.

“Everything matters, I am sure you have heard the saying, you live, you learn.” She softened her tone again.

“You are right, I am just confused.” I admitted.

“No, you are not confused, you know the decision you need to make.”

“Be yourself, daughter.”

Her hand gently touched my face before throwing me back into my body. I inhaled before opening my eyes. That was different from my typical astral trip. I wondered where she was.

As soon as I was back in my body, I felt exhaustion overtake me and I drifted off to sleep. I knew Lex was still close by and I would be safe.

I wasn’t expecting to dream at all, I found myself surrounded by wolves, witches, and fae. I thought the fae were extinct. I haven’t seen one in over 200 years. We seemed to be preparing for a battle.

I saw the mass of wolves and other types of shifters rushing towards us. Helga was on my left side but looked older. I went to grab her arm and throw her behind me when my eyes shot open.

Feeling Lex still sleeping with his head on my chest, I remained still. I wanted to enjoy this for a moment. This man was the one they wrote about in the books. The one that would do literally anything for me, his mate. He never did anything to hurt me, not even unintentionally. How does a man like that even exist?

I looked to the sky, the threat of daylight about an hour or so away. Lex moved his snout over and licked my nose. When I reached up to wipe it, he shot up and into some nearby bushes.

“You know if you had to pee you could have just nudged me or something.” I giggled.

“You know you love it when I lick your nose like that.” He replied smirking.

He came out of the bushes with his shorts barley around his hips. I could see his muscle definition and the waistband from the shorts was just above his shaft. He took a seat next to me.

I on top of him before he realized what was happening. My legs straddling him, my leggings allowing minimal fabric. He was growing rapidly, pushing further against my center. I felt the last 3000 years pumping through my veins and I knew exactly how to satisfy it.

“I need you; I’ve missed you. I need your touch; I need you inside me.” I was begging.

My lips leaving little kisses all down his neck to his chest. I wanted all of him right in that moment.

“Slow down princess, you know what I missed…” He flipped me over and my pants were off instantly.

A few more days passed. Gunny and I finally began to lose hope and devise a plan to search for our missing group. I couldn’t think about what may have happened to them. I wanted to know they were okay. Randolph was a fierce warrior above everything else. It hadn’t been long enough since the last time I thought I may lose him. I needed to find him. No matter the cost. I expected Lex to fight me on leaving, to protest my partner. I always had Alexander by my side. Through the thousands of years, we had been together, we always had each other. When he agreed to stay behind to help develop our settlement, I was shocked. Not knowing the status of Randolph, Helga or the others was to much for both of us to bare. As Gunny and I sat near the fire a few days before the full moon, Freya came running

Waking this time was easier than the last. I was glad that I didn’t feel as restricted waking. I could see the bright light creeping from the open doorway. The curtain along side the bed I slept in was open. I slowly sat up making sure I didn’t move to fast. When I realized I was moving okay and there were no side effects from the tonic Lex gave me I began to move faster. I could hear giggling and kids playing around. My heart leapt, the thought of Freya and Ingrid being here. All the uncertainty in the world had my nerves on edge I just needed to know my family is safe. Sylvi sat with Mason on her lap next to Chase and Killian. Bjorn and Chase decided on using my late ex-husbands name when adopting the little boy. Bjorn felt it was important to ask Helga, Ingrid, and Freya’s permissi

After we were settled, I paced around the complex looking for any weak points. Lex had tried to convince me to get some rest, but I had no need for it. I wanted to make sure the children we brought here were safe. I needed to know when the rest of my pack would arrive, they would be too. “Astrid…” Lex’s voice full of sympathy came from behind me. “I don’t like your tone… Or your guilt.” I responded sensing it through the mate bond. “There was another attack. We lost a few more…” Lex began to explain but I raised my hand cutting him off. &ld

I woke disoriented. I wasn’t sure what was happening around me. I could tell I wasn’t in my bed. I kept my eyes closed trying to hear anything around me. My hearing was distorted, a faded ringing was the only sound in my head. I moved my body slightly careful not to draw attention to myself. I was unable to tell what I was laying on. The only comfort I had was the blanket loosely placed on me. I began to grow inpatient. I forced my eyes open ready for anything. Or so I thought. Looking around the dim-lit cabin I was infuriated. How did I get onto the plane without realizing I had been moved? Many questions began to flood my mind as my vision cleared. I was finally able to see Lex approaching where I laid across the two seats on the plane.

I sat naked, on the floor, in the center of my ritual blanket. The candlelight flickered softly against my skin. I was doing my best to relax and remain open calling to the gods. I wanted reassurance that we were making the right move. I had no need for more bloodshed. I let out my frustration as a sigh and a roll of my eyes. “I know I have been busy and closed off, but that was just because so much happened.” I said aloud. “I just need something, anything to tell me we are doing what is right!” I yelled. Nothing happened. After all the times the goddess had spoke though me, my moments in other worlds with them, nothing. I felt a sense of desertion, like they had abandoned me. We were not turning out like they wished, they finally had enough. A knock on the door startled me.

The last week went by in the blink of an eye. The repairs were mostly completed around the packhouse We listed the farm for sale, the clearing team was almost finished. An offer came in 2 days after listing, we accepted glad to be rid of the horrific scene. I stood on the back porch with my coffee watching the teenagers training. There were 2 children, 11 and 10 years old, trying to mimic the advanced moves. I took a breath of fresh air, the breeze was cool but it was warmer than average. I heard footsteps approach and felt Sylvi’s presence before she spoke. “You seem to be in a good mood today.” She said holding her cup over the railing. “A week with no future attacks will do that.&rdquo
