Through me. I had stared back into her gray eyes that didn’t seem to look directly at mine. Instead, her eyes stared seemingly through me. Into a dark space. Spinning around, I had waved my hand in front of her face, only to see no response of any sort. That was when I realized—she was blind. My hand had still been waving in the air when Linda had abruptly grabbed my wrist, making me jump up in fright. ‘A war is brewing. You need to go. It’s too dangerous.’ Her lips quivered as she whispered. Her blind, empty silver eyes desperate. She was shaking and I had to grip onto her shoulder to help her maintain balance.

~~Louisiana~~ I was scooped up like I weighed nothing, strong arms caging me in as the blindfold pressed harder against my eyes. My heart hammered. Every nerve in me screamed for the cloth to fall, just once, so I could see their faces—see the beasts I had only heard of in whispered stories. The Monsters of the North. The Destroyers. But before I could even twitch, the other one—the one who wasn’t Zade—yanked the blindfold tighter. His fingers dug into the knot until it bit into my skin. My world stayed black.

Why wasn’t he answering? As the men led me toward the guest quarters, I slipped into another passage. But before I made it far, the one-eyed brute caught me. His fist shot out like iron, catching me off guard. I fell and the world spun black. ~~~~~~ When the blindfold was yanked off, I sat in a dim room. Darius lounged across from me, cigarette smoke curling through the stale air. He blew a thick cloud into my face and laughed. “So this is the legendary Dark?”

Things would be much easier for me if A-Jun were here with me. If only I could get him to listen, corporate and just stay close, while I take this shower. I hit my leg again, and I yelp, harder this time. My hand brushes something, and I hold on to it. Okay, this is a shower head… It’s definitely a shower head. How the hell does the blind manage being blind? Now I’m beginning to feel sorry for them. They can’t see the sun, the moon, or the stars, which are so beautiful.

He lost his balanced and fell backward, he sat down on the floor and didn’t bother standing up. “What am I gonna do with you.” “What if there a ghost here or something. Or what if I wake up in the morning and I saw another blind somebody.” “It would be perfect won’t it?” He gestured. “Everything would be complete. I almost gasped when I realized what I’d done. “I can’t see,” Charles croaked. “I’m blind.” “FELIX!” I heard someone shout from behind me. I turned to see Mila running towards me, another woman at her side. I couldn’t tell who her companion was at this distance, but I’d know my wife anywhere. “Felix!”

Zigas said. The two bitchy-looking girls walked towards us, "Why are you entering someone's house without permission?! I will call the police—" "He is Archer's foster brother. You'd better tell me where he is now." "What? Is he the famous Xander Balstair, the prince merciless of rogue? " One of the girls seemed to know Xander or just might have heard of him. I don't know. "But why is he blind? He must be lying and pretending to be him!" Another girl hissed. They hissed too clearly for even my ears to catch. Why did they say that? Then when did Xander become blind?

River probed. Brielle’s lips curled into a knowing smile. “In return for my help, I want Daniel to share me some of the memories he has,” she declared. I gritted my teeth. This was the part I hated. Brielle had been blind since birth. The only way she could see the world was through visions of the future… or by stealing glimpses into other people’s memories. I grabbed his beating heart and gently brought it out. He panted and began to cry after seeing his beating heart. “Why are you crying? Aren’t you pathetic? What was that you said before? I threw his heart and his lifeless body away.
