A painting hangs beside his desk. I don’t know why it draws me in, but I find myself walking closer. Thick strokes of midnight blue and charcoal gray layer the canvas. In the center — barely visible unless you truly look — a thin streak of gold cuts through the darkness. Not bright. Not loud. Just there. A quiet fracture of light. It isn’t something you glance at. It’s something you feel. My fingers almost lift to touch the textured paint. Why would a blind man choose something so visual?

Her car honked away, then the men smiled at me and advanced closer. The bald man picked up the blindfold again. Before I could beg, he wrapped his hands around my eyes. He didn't look surprised to see them. “You took too long.” Elena stopped. “You knew we were coming?” “I knew someone would come.” The man slowly lifted his head. His blind eyes seemed to look directly at Elena.

Her eyes were pale and unfocused, clouded by blindness. “Leave us,” she said softly. Drail hesitated, then bowed his head and stepped back. The blind woman tilted her head slightly, as if listening to something beneath my skin.

yelled the man I presume is Jace. Blind Guy caresses my body with his one eye as he starts from my chest and works his way down to my legs where his gaze stops and fixates on the junction of my thighs. I begin to tremble in fear as his words start to make sense in my head. NO! I need to get out of here.
