Thorne’s POV The hammer connected with a sickening crack. “Fuck!" Caleb’s scream tore through the sterile room, his body arching off the hospital bed. He clutched his arm like it might fall off, blood rushing to his pale face as sweat dripped down his temples.

She stopped in her tracks, as the upright body of the man beside her fell to the ground with a hole in the head. Her hand began to tremble as she robbed them on her face, before drawing it to a range that her eyes could see. When she saw the red liquid on her fingers with her own eyes, she nearly collapsed. But instead, a loud terrifying scream erupted from her lips, loud enough to wake the dead, loud enough to cause an earth tremor.

But she didn’t realize that even if she wanted to scream, she couldn’t, because her vocal cords went numb. Amber couldn’t scream when she felt sharp claws pierce her spine. She couldn’t scream when she felt two rows of jagged teeth sink into her left shoulder, severing her collarbone. She couldn’t scream when she felt burning acid dripping down on her arm. The acid burned straight through her flesh, reaching the bone. There was no screaming in the darkness. The only sounds were bones breaking and human flesh being torn apart, along with chewing, slurping, and clicking.

At the same moment, Peggy raised both hands and pushed—She conjured a shrieking sound into the ears of only the vampires. It was something beyond hearing—a frequency that bypassed ears and went straight to the brain. Every vampire in the room staggered. Candice released Killian, her hands flying to her ear. Darius collapsed. Liam, Ryan, and Zack dropped to their knees, mouths open in silent screams, hands hovering over their ears. The gut-wrenching scream tore through the eerie silence of the night. The nurse on night duty burst into the room, startled by the sound. Samantha was thrashing in her bed, her legs tangled in the sheets, fists clenched so tightly that her knuckles turned white. Her face was flushed red, soaked with tears as she screamed in agony, her voice raw and trembling.
