No buffer against the horrific words it spewed from its blackened mouth like acid. “She’s with him again.” I looked away. Refused to look at the creature. But I could feel it approaching me. Its feet almost seemed to slap wetly on the hardwood floor, leaving behind a trail of bloody footprints that only I could see. The room was covered in them now—on the floor, the walls, the ceiling. Blood. So much blood. It dripped from the wood, from the light fixtures, seeped into the grains of the floor, soaked the couch cushions.

I took a cautious step forward — and felt my shoe dip into something slick. I glanced down, sharpening my wolf vision to pierce the gloom. It wasn’t mud, nor water. It was blood. Dark, congealed, and pooling in shallow hollows. My gaze followed the blood to where scattered bones lay half-buried beneath moss and dirt. Not old enough to be forgotten, not fresh enough to still reek. The sight settled a cold knot in my gut. My muscles tensed. This wasn’t just another decaying part of the ruin.

He spat a wad of black blood onto the ground where it sizzled. “Going to carve the flesh off your bones, boy—” It said in its watery voice. I rolled my eyes, “Get in line.” The inside of poor Flint’s house had seen better days. There wasn’t a single surface that wasn’t covered in blood. Most of it had dried, leaving the place heavy with a sour, metallic tang. It was peeling off the tiled floors of the small kitchen, leaving rust-colored flakes clinging to our shoes. Of course, Kimberly threw a fit.

He raised his hand a bit higher so the others could take a clearer look and explained, “This dirt is not from this area. Take a look at your surroundings. The forest only has moist black soil, and a fine textured loam. Yet the stuff that I have in my hand is different. It is sandier and rougher and if you look closely, it has a scarlet color to it.” Aurora felt the dirt in his hand with two fingers. Damien was right. This dirt was not from this area. “So you are suggesting that—” “This sandy dirt was carried here by the criminals underneath their shoes. All we need to do now is to see if any nearby places have this kind of scarlet soil. Then we will know where these criminals have been to.”

The air was thick with a foul, deathly presence. Nausea rose, choking me. I fought to hold it down, but my stomach twisted, the bitter taste rising. Blood. Fresh. Dark. Everywhere. A stark stain on the cold concrete. It pooled in the corners, a chilling testament to what had happened here. My hands flew to my mouth, holding back the bile. My feet cemented to the ground, my body paralysed by the horror before me.

The perfect front for a body dump spot. Jackson stoops down and probes his finger into a dark substance on the ground, examining it. He turns pale and heaves. My heart stops again. I immediately know. It’s blood. Everybody circles the small pool of dense black-red liquid drained into the dirt. Please let it not be their blood. Please, please, please. A blood trail leaves a distinct route to the small room as if something bloody was dragged through the dirt. It’s like deja vu ― almost the same pattern as the one from years ago, in our hallway.

At least, I thought it was. The room was massive. Circular. The walls were high and stained a deep, dried brown where blood had seeped into every crack of the concrete. Spatters of crimson painted the space like grotesque art. Fresh streaks glistened under the cold light spilling from industrial lamps hung high above, swinging slightly, their chains creaking with every breath of movement. The air was cold. Sharp. But somehow thick, like it clung to my skin. The floor… Heavens. It was slick in places, still wet. I could feel the squish beneath my feet, I had to push back the rising disgust.

Slipping the chip of my card on the sensor, the door pushes open to red stains on the white floor. It forms a pool and drags along in scary circles. Blood?!!

Levi Blood drips from my hands, trickling down my fingers like crimson tears. My shirt is stained, the white fabric soaked with the dark red liquid. I make my way into the tall building, a majestic skyscraper with a sleek, modern design. The ceiling made entirely of glass allowing the light to sip in unhindered. I'm pissed to the core as I make my way to the elevator, my feet grazing the polished graphite wooden floors. The metallic scent of blood lingers in the air around me, the trail of blood behind me as it drips from my hand and once white sparkling shirt.

The place was a bloodied mess and I couldn’t tell for sure but I highly suspected that it was wolf bloody body parts that were spilled on the floor. I crouch low, grabbing a bucket and dustpan feeling nauseous as I scoop a pan full of blood into the bucket… After scrubbing for a very long time I had come to the conclusion the blood stain was not leaving from the spot on the floor. I tried my best but the stubborn stain still didn’t budge. The guards approved of my work telling me to leave the equipment behind and they’ll get rid of them. My purple gown had been ruined. I sigh sadly, making up my mind to wear my old ones anytime I clean the dungeons or toilets.
