The black ink words—*The Hero fell*—turned into violet birds and flew away. The Author looked down at the fang. His white sweater began to turn black. His skin began to grow fur. "What... what is this?" he gasped. "This isn't in the 'Outline'!"

"You've been suppressing it for too long." She shook her head. "That's impossible. I'm not that strong." Kael crouched in front of her, his expression serious now. "You're not supposed to be. Not unless you were born with bound magic." She stared at him. "You keep saying that. What does it even mean?" He studied her wrist again, the mark still glowing faintly. "When two powers-demon and witch merge, they create something called the Bloodbound. A fusion. The last one nearly destroyed three realms."

To my surprise, a flash of jealousy dances across her terrified eyes. “Only Caius has ever laid a hand on me like that,” I corrected quickly. “He’s the only immortal who has fed on me. I just mean that neither of them has hurt me.” I leave out the small detail that Naman has also fed from me...and that he died because of it. This is hard enough for Rebecca; I can't imagine that her finding out that my blood is now toxic and could be used as a weapon of war would make this any easier.
