It was my second blood draw today, so I gave the doctor my left hand and hid the marks on my right arm that had been left behind by the needle previously. As blood flowed from my arm into the tube, I trembled violently, and my face scrunched up. Perhaps my face had turned ghastly as the doctor asked worriedly, "Are you okay?" I struggled to answer through the pain and dizziness and managed to grit out, "I'm fine." The doctor sighed at my stubbornness but continued to draw blood from my arm.

Even though every month my blood is drawn but I'm not used to the pain. Tears welled up in the corners of my eyes. I give up. Dad never loved me. I shouldn't have had to ask so I wouldn't feel heartbroken. My head is spinning, and my vision is blurry. I couldn't keep my eyelids from continuing to open. Maybe it was not eating and drinking for three days and having my blood drawn that caused me to faint. I held my head which was always dizzy after dad took my blood. I sat down and glanced at my arm, which had the injection marks on it. "My arms are getting ugly. I don't like them. They just need my blood." I sneered.

As he spoke, he sat down beside her and gently lifted her hand, carefully rubbing the alcohol-soaked medical cotton into the pale skin and then thrusting the needle in. In an instant, blood is drawn out. His movements were much more skilled and faster than the nurses, so before she could feel the pain, everything was done.

It felt like a chain. Without thinking, without even feeling the sting, I reached over with my other hand and ripped the tape off. I pulled the slender needle out of my vein. A small bead of dark red blood welled up and trickled down my wrist. I didn’t even mind it. It felt more real than the numbness inside me. I was swinging my legs over the side of the bed when the door opened again. Dante stepped in, papers in hand, followed by the kind doctor.

A drop of blood hit the floor. Then another. The pounding eased slightly, the voices in my head faded to a dull echo. My breathing came in ragged gasps as I stared blankly at the floor, watching the blood drip steadily. Neville screamed. I saw her move frantically, rushing to my drawer, her hands shaking as she yanked it open. She pulled out a syringe already filled with a clear substance. There was no hesitation. She rushed back and jabbed it into my thigh. The sharp sting barely registered.

I kept wondering what could be going wrong, I really couldn't understand what was going on as much as I tried. Not long after the doctors left my room, a nurse and one of the doctors came back. The nurse politely asked me to lie down in a comfortable position, with my arm extended and my palm facing up. She cleaned the area of my arm where the blood will be drawn with an antiseptic solution, which will help to reduce the risk of having an infection.

I nodded, “I do. And it does smell weird.” “Go lay down, Kennedy, and let’s see what’s up. You did your bloodwork?” I nodded. Some poor nurse had the luck to take my blood. She left in tears, but she managed to collect multiple tubes of my blood. Serves her right for not getting it done the first time. What kind of nurse can’t draw blood? I’m white as a fucking lily, and my veins are visible as fuck. I laid down on the table, and he moved my shirt up and my underwear down. Then he put some gel on my stomach, which thankfully he had heated first.

"Mrs. Rollins, it's time for your blood draw." She hovered over the back of my hand, trying to find a vein. She missed on her first attempt. As a drop of blood welled up on my skin, she hastily pressed a cotton swab over it. "Sorry. I'm so sorry." She moved to another spot, her hands shaking even harder this time. She pierced straight through a vein on her second try. A sharp pain shot through me. Cold sweat broke out across my forehead. Unable to take it anymore, I snapped in anger, "Get out."

“It also means he’s got something to hide. I look forward to hearing what it is.” He taps a syringe against the table, flicking the plastic barrel to clear an air bubble. The fluorescent light catches the drop of clear liquid at the tip of the needle. "Get him out of the chair. Wake him up. If his blood pressure is too low, the serum just pools in the system." The guy by the door moves. He grabs the back of my ruined hoodie and yanks me out of the chair. The tape holding my left wrist snaps. The adhesive tears a strip of skin right off my forearm.

Lynn stated. Gideon walked through the hospital doors and saw us talking with the doctor. When he stepped up to where we were he asked, “Well how bad is she?” Dr. Lynn spoke up and said, “She’s not at risk for dying and if you’re still willing to donate your blood, she will heal much quicker.” Gideon nodded and said, “To do this sterilely you will need a larger bore needle like a sixteen gauge. The person drawing the blood will need to know their anatomy well because you can’t palpate for a vein, like you would for a human.” Gideon told Dr. Lynn, as he rolled up his sleeves and they began to walk towards the exam room doors.
