Madeleine Cross -one of the few humans immune to the deadly virus Zion- after an unfortunate turn of events such as the loss of her last remaining parental figure finds herself captured by a BloodHound -a genetically enhanced being, designed to identify and retrieve the last remaining Negatives roaming the Earth. She gets thrown into a sterile room to be subjected to various tests, under the pretence that her blood would be the key to develop an antidote against the deadly virus...But that couldn't be any further than the dark truth.

I’m settling myself against the hotel’s check-in desk to watch the drama unfold when I hear it—the snow-muffled sounds of scrapping wolves, teeth snapping and fiercely growling in violent fighting, and muted screams from somewhere in the distance. “Oh shit!” My shout as I dash for the lobby door draws Darby and my father’s attention and a silence falls upstairs as the cold rushes in from the veranda. Outside, Main street is flooding with hundreds of lumbering corpses in various stages of decay, interspersed with a significant vampire host engaged hotly and forcing back small clusters of both shifted wolves and unshifted weres.

Someone, probably Baron, left a blood bag on my pillow. I usually don’t drink unknown blood, but I’m starving and the painful thirst reminding me that I haven’t fed yet is driving me insane. I tear the bag open and bring it to my nose. Grimacing and shaking my head, I get up and empty the bag in the bathroom sink. I can smell the human disease in the blood – Typhoid. It won’t harm me, but it makes the blood bitter. I pull on a pair of joggers and a sweater and lie on the soft, comfortable bed, listening to the house settle down and gradually go quiet. The only sound is the footsteps of Baron’s patrolling wolves. No doubt, he has a few wolf guards on Simone’s door.

Brooding dragons were very territorial about their nests, and instinct had Ember rumbling warning and blowing smoke at Aislen during the brief visit. Tyler and Izeikiel had both volunteered to adopt Toby as their vampiric child. Lauren and Jessica had been at his side during the process. The hospital staff had siphoned off Toby’s contaminated blood, whilst the two vampires had fed him. They had taken it very slowly, over the course of a week, and Meguitte had supervised. She and Connery had taken the tainted blood in order to examine it with the goal of understanding better how the gloves worked.

CHAPTER FIVE. The sounds of the chains echoed through the passages as the werewolves' prisoners were pushed out to the backyard where the annual ceremony would take place. Each year, on the day before the full moon, a ceremony would take place where the werewolves captured were experimented on by Dr. Matt. His experiment usually last till the full moon was over. Dr. Matt sat patiently, watching as the soldiers pushed all the werewolves out. *** Mrs. Sparks and Caroline sat in Sparks' living room gossiping and giggling. Mrs. Sparks stole surreptitious glances around to convince herself that no one was around. "I have filed for divorce," She whispered. "I hope I'm doing the right thing."

I just… stared at her. For a long time, with my mouth wide open. Not blinking. Not breathing right. Trying to make sense of the words that had just fallen out of her mouth like they were not meant to crush my whole life in one blow. “So you’re telling me,” I said slowly, saying each word like it might burn me if I rushed, “that I…... I’m half vampire?” “Yes,” the councilor said in that calm, serene voice of hers, like she was explaining the weather forecast. “A dhampir to be precise.”

Callen raised the test tube high, the blood inside it glowing: “Valenfort must be purified! Let the Blood Emperor know that humanity is still alive!” Shooting, screams echoed. The Hunter force moved through the night, heading towards the center. A new war begins, the Age of Blood truly rises. --- Amidst the chaos, Lucien stepped through the ashes, his eyes fixed on the place that used to be Sanctuary, where he and Evelyn first met. He bent down, his hand touching the ground where she had fallen. A dry red petal fell from his sleeve, the blood lotus that Evelyn had pinned to his chest on a rainy night.

He denied it, saying he did not want to play childish games with me anymore. 'Ethan, don't you remember that I can't swim?' The moment my body fell, I thought I saw his face go pale. His eyes seemed to be filled with disbelief. Of course, it was all a lie, but at that moment, I truly believed he loved me. I was terrified of water. When Ethan was ambushed and thrown into a river years ago, it was me who saved him. The price I paid was steep. My limbs had gone numb from the icy water, and when I woke up, the doctor told me I would never have children.

He puts lids on them and straws and then holds the cup out to me and says, “You’re welcome to it, if you want it.” I’m hesitant, but my grumbling tummy doesn’t give me much of an option. As I take the cup from his hands, my fingers brush against his and I’m alarmed by how cold they are. It felt colder than ice and I wish I could hold his hands and warm them up in mine. He tells me, “We get the blood from blood drives or animals we’ve caught in the forest. We try hard not to have to drink from tap. Especially with humans, although, some of us has more restraint than others.” He rolls his eyes with that last sentence and I can’t help but wonder what he means by that. Who has less restraint? I

To my surprise, a flash of jealousy dances across her terrified eyes. “Only Caius has ever laid a hand on me like that,” I corrected quickly. “He’s the only immortal who has fed on me. I just mean that neither of them has hurt me.” I leave out the small detail that Naman has also fed from me...and that he died because of it. This is hard enough for Rebecca; I can't imagine that her finding out that my blood is now toxic and could be used as a weapon of war would make this any easier.
