"Sit down, pet." Those words echo through Raya's mind as she thinks about how her drastically her life changed in the past 24 hours. She knew her entire life that she wasn't like everybody else, that she was actually a half-vampire. She always wondered who her father was, but it seemed to be the one secret her mother was determined to take to her grave. Raya knows next to nothing about her heritage or this other side of herself and what she is capable of. Now that she is stuck with three hot vampire brothers that want answers she has no idea what will become of her.

Anxiety fills my body, each minute brings me closer to the time I turn 18 and it terrifies me. My life… my pure existence it isn’t normal. I’m not like others. I’m half vampire and half human, I live with my human mother and she has hidden who I am from the rest of the world.
But when you’re a vampire certain ages bring about certain qualities. By the time you’re five you’ll sprout your fangs, by thirteen you’ll notice that you’re stronger and faster than humans are, and when you turn 18 you’re supposed to come into the full powers of whatever gifting your blood line has.
I’ll officially turn 18 in one hour. I have no idea what powers I may come into and I’m in the worst place I could possibly be in. My stepfather, Trevor and my stepsister, Blair hate vampires with a burning passion, once a month they go on hunting trips to try to kill them. They claim that they are ridding this world of evil. I think that Trevor brainwashed Blair over the years into the deep hatred she has. Don’t get me wrong, nobody likes vampires, but the hatred she holds at such a young age for no particular reason is abnormal.
I can hear the hurried steps on the stairs as someone walks up to my room. The door creaks loudly and I turn to see that my mother has pushed it open. My mother is a pretty woman, but I look nothing like her. She has fair features, straight blonde hair, pale skin, and blue eyes, I think the only thing I inherited from her was the shape of her button nose.
She smiles brightly at me and says, “You’re about to be 18! We’re getting the cake ready for you. Are you ready to celebrate?”
I ignore her question, knowing that this is the only chance she’d get to ask her today, “Mom, who is my dad?”
The anxiety of the unknown is eating me alive. I need to know what I should be prepared for an hour from now. My mom immediately groans in annoyance, I’ve asked the same question every year, longing to know about my lineage and every year she reacts the same way.
She glances behind her and closes the door as she hisses, “Be quiet! Trevor and Blair are right down stairs. It’s been eight years since we all became a family, I would think by this point that you would know not to talk about such things with them nearby.”
I huff, “It’s not like I have any other option, mom. You avoid answering me anytime that I ask! I officially turn 18 in thirty minutes. I have a right to know what might happen to me. Who is he? Tell me my father’s name?”
She shoots me an icy glare and says, “I will not speak that man’s name in my house. We will talk later.”
With that, she turns and leaves me alone. I close my eyes as I breathe out, trying to regain control over my rapid heartbeat. If I listen closely, I can hear my family in the floor below talking as they do whatever the finishing touches are on my cake.
I’m going to stay up here as long as I can, hell, I’d like to stay up here until after the clock strikes, just in case I have some unknown power that will emerge.
So far, I’ve gotten every ability that comes with being a vampire. It’s obvious that those genes are much stronger than my human genes. I think my mom refuses to tell me about my biological father because she thinks that by ignoring his existence means that she can ignore that side of me. Secretly, I’ve always wondered if she hates me because of the monster within me.
She doesn’t hate me enough to kill me, but… she doesn’t love me enough to let me know everything I should know.
I sigh as I brush my hair for the umpteenth time and then I hear my mom yell my name. I glance at the clock, only three minutes left. I press my lips together and walk to my door and force myself to open it and descend the stairs.
I plaster on my best fake smile as I see the double decker cake that my mom and Trevor either spent a fortune on or my mom worked her ass off to bake. Trevor finishes lighting the candles and Blair rushes toward me, grabbing me by the arm and pulling me closer as they all begin to sing.
By the time they stop singing, the clock strikes the minute I was born, and I take a deep breath ready to blow out all 18 candles. But the front door crashes open, loud enough to make all of us jump, wind rushes into the room extinguishing my lit candles. My jaw drops as I see a man in front of me with piercing red eyes and when he opens his mouth, his fangs are undeniable. Vampire.
There’s a vampire in our home.
The fear in the room is so thick you could almost taste it. My ears feel like they’re ringing and I can faintly hear Trevor yell to Blair, “Blair, move it!”
They’re going to get their hunting gear. They worded it to make it seem like they’re running away to hide, but I know they’re better than that. They won’t back down from a vampire fight.
They rush from the room, the vampire’s eyes are glued onto my mother. I turn to face her and see she’s shaking in fear. The vampire states, “You never should’ve taken her from me.”
I open my mouth to speak, trying to understand what is happening here. But before my mother or I have a chance to respond, I’ve been pulled into his arms and in a blink of an eye, I’ve disappeared from the only home I’ve ever known.
Raya“Do you know how reckless that was?!” Adam’s voice screeches for the fifteenth time. It doesn’t matter what Luther says, it doesn’t matter what I say, there’s no reason that I should’ve compelled him according to Adam.Blade watches the whole interaction with his arms crossed and he feigns disinterest. I know him, I know he’s a lot more interested than what he’s letting on.Luther snaps, “There was nothing reckless about it, Adam! You don’t get to just control everyone’s life!”“It’s my job to keep you safe!”I breathe out, letting the boys continue to fight as I lean against the counter next to Blade. I ask him softly, “Do you think we were reckless?”He shakes his head softly, “It’s natural for both of you to want to explore this new dynamic. I think Adam believes you were reckless because if our father had seen Luther when the tether broke… there’s a chance he would’ve killed you on the spot. He wants the Ambrose family to be the most powerful and with you having power over on
BlairTonight is supposed to be my Luna ceremony… I’m not entirely sure what that means, but I trust Hunter and I trust his pack. Or well, our pack.He walks into our room with a small smile on his face, his eyes flicker to look at the mark on my neck. He walks over to me and wraps his arms around my waist before kissing my mark, making tingles erupt through my body. He whispers softly, “You look perfect, like a goddess, Blair.”My cheeks heat up and I turn to look at him, his eyes shining with adoration for me. I tell him, “I’m becoming your Luna officially, I’ll be your equal, right?”He smiles, “You’re already my equal, Blair.”I comment, “I want to see Raya.”He winces softly and shakes his head, “I know you want to, Blair, but it’s dangerous around vampires.”“I don’t care.”He huffs, “You might not care, Blair, but I do, a lot, You are everything to me and if they got their hands on you.” He pinches the bridge of his nose in frustration. This has been our main argument since we
RayaI feel disoriented. I don’t know what exactly is going on, it’s like my head is spinning round and round on a ride that won’t stop. I hear Adam’s harsh voice as he asks me, “What did you do?”Something about the tone of his voice helps me to focus, although I don’t understand why he thinks it’s okay to speak to me that way. My head snaps towards him and I tell him harshly, “Mind your tone.”His eyebrows raise in surprise and I feel a hand on my shoulder, it’s a silent warning for me to stand down. I look back at Blade whose eyes are shining with concern. I frown as I look at him, I don’t know what they’re so worried about. I just went out with Luther for a little while, it isn’t as big of a deal as what they’re making it be.We went out, we came back, and then… and then… I don’t remember. My eyebrows crinkle together as I try harder to think of what happened next, but nothing is coming to my mind. I look towards Luther who also seems to be in a bit of a daze. He rubs his eyes for
RayaI’m surprised by how much I’ve enjoyed being around Luther. Things aren’t tense with him instead I feel like for once, I don’t have any worries. He doesn’t get too close to me, but I’m not sure if he’s doing that out of trying to give me peace of mind or what his motive might be. Regardless, I’ve been grateful for the night out.We get back to the Estate and he looks at me with a happy gleam in his eyes and asks, “Do you want to see what my favorite spot of the estate is? I like to go here anytime I get out of the house.”I look back where we can see the sun just beginning to peak through in the darkness. I murmur, “Is it outside? You don’t have much time.”He smirks and holds out his hand and asks, “Do you trust me?”And surprisingly, I don’t hesitate to put my hand in his. Even with the sun coming up, I don’t feel afraid. Then again, I’m not the one whose life is in danger because of the sun. He pulls me closer to him and holds me tight and his breath fans my ear as he whispers
BladeIt has been difficult to be away from Raya. I thought I made my feelings for her obvious with that kiss, yet she asked for space from all of us. She has never sought me out so I let her have her space.I watched her from a distance, still concerned about her safety even though my father seems to be less of a threat with each passing day. At this point, I’m just missing her. I miss her presence and talking to her, she was one of the only things in my life to make me feel like I have a purpose. So, after 7 days of respecting her space, I decided that today if she doesn’t crack then I will. And I hope she won’t reject me.I watched her room from afar like I always do until I heard a commotion from some of the servants we have down the hall. I sigh as I force myself to leave to help with whatever was going on. It’s rare for there to be fights around the estate, but I know no one would act up if I was around. With great reluctance, I leave Raya’s space unattended.I couldn’t have bee
RayaIt’s been a week since the Adam, Blade, and Luther admitted their feelings for me. They’ve left me alone so that I can have time to process. I haven’t seen Adam at all. Blade is always near, watching me and keeping me safe, but he doesn’t interact with me and I haven’t figured out the words to say to him. I’ve seen Luther in passing. I walk into a room, he leaves it and that’s how it’s been.I don’t know how to talk to any of them. But I feel overwhelmed with guilt for not knowing which one of them I want. For not realizing sooner that they might have feelings for me.The choice should be obvious, I should pick and want Blade. He’s been there for me the most and has made me feel valued. But I think of Luther and his charisma and the chill that I get when he calls me his toy. I think of how I haven’t seen him take a girl to his room, human or vampire, since I came here. And from the way the boys talked apparently that had been a very common thing from him.I think of Adam. I think
