I have no idea. While I was talking to Leana, explaining what had happened, Drake had gone out hunting, bringing back a deer for her. While I’m used to werewolves killing forest creatures, I’m not used the violence that was shown in this carcass. The throat had been ripped out, leaving a gaping wound and nearly decapitating the poor creature.

It gathered around, thickening and bristling so that all who came in contact with it were immediately rebuffed by its scorching heat and rough edges. The vampires waged a bloody war against the Brevians, ripping off flesh and digging out hearts. They fed on the blood of their victims after every kill, thereby getting stronger and fiercer. The Brevians fled for their lives after seeing their comrades drop down in alarming amounts. The vampires chased after them, killing them with shocking speed. By midnight, over five thousand Brevian soldiers lay dead. The vampires fed on their blood until they could drink no longer then they faced the Jaresh empire's central city.

Zane ate whatever I prepared, and most vampires could manage with a regular diet or a raw meat diet, yet in my mate´s case, he needed regular intakes of my blood to keep himself grounded and to keep the nightmares at bay. We all sat around the table, at one end, at the head, Daddy, beside him, Mom. Then we all sat around with our mates beside us. Around a long table, our pups and kids were included. Matty and Iris had two; Stavros and Akasha didn´t waste any time, and they have a royal alpha boy and two eccentric twin vampire girls. Grecco and Liah were expecting. The D´Angelo dynasty has been growing, and soon it will be our time to add two or three pups to the mix.

I let it fall to the ground, but my anger didn’t subside. A guttural growl ripped from my throat, loud enough to shake the trees and send a flock of birds scattering into the sky. My body trembled with the intensity of my frustration. I turned away from the carcass, my eyes flashing as I disappeared back into the night and towards the blood niche. The moment I stepped into The Blood Niche room, the scene before me was grotesque. Vampires who had drunk Keilah’s blood were sprawled out on the floor, their bodies lifeless, their faces contorted in agony.

We needed the intel anyway. “So, how’d everything go?” Nathan asked, casually raising the bet. I tossed in my chips. Tomas folded with a scowl. “Man, it was a fucking shit show. The Riding Hoods rustled up some asanbosam—closest thing to real-life vampires you’ll ever see. Picture a bare-ass monkey with huge claws and bigger teeth. They turned them loose on an entire village. Killed everyone—men, women, kids. Even the pets. Drained fucking dry.”

And somewhere during that journey, my hand ended up being in his cool hand. "When last have you eaten?" I asked rubbing my fingers over his cold skin. "I don't know... a while?" He said indifferent. "A while! Haydon you need to feed!" I yelled. He smiled at me, "If I don't eat it's not like I'll die. Vampires can last an entire lifetime without blood...it's just very, very excruciating and can drive even the best of us to wipe out the entire human population because of blood lust."

I see Jax turn his head and he nods towards the forest up on the hill. “Animal blood good enough?” he asks “I guess so.” Tasha nods in agreement. Jax takes the car that him and Daryl came in and tells us to sit tight. “You wouldn’t drink blood?” I ask quietly, knowing she was vegetarian as I try to ignore the spots that come into my vision.

"What's going on?" was the first thing I asked as I took my seat close to the Alpha's seat. "We have an emergency and have summoned all the strongest warriors across the state… currently, the president and the first lady are at the war front, facing a Whitewater werewolf strong enough to be an Alpha," he said. "E-Gamma Spencer… we need full information!" I yelled angrily at his hearing as he flinched. Poor old werewolf.

He drawled rather acerbically. “It's been quite the week.” Was all the apology I was interested in offering and it didn't seem to help. “We've heard. Rogue wolves. Brawls with vampires. A new mutt that seems to have disappeared into thin air.” Helena Styver’s sharp voice interjected and I swung my attention to her steel gaze. I wasn't surprised they had heard about the altercation with the vampire; not everything could be hidden in a court as big as mine. Still, I was relieved to note that they didn't seem to know everything; like where the mutt was and that she was mate.
