I said to him. I didn't know whether he heard me or not but I meant everything I said. I'm at the supermarket when an old woman I don't know suddenly grips my hand tightly. I instinctively shield my baby bump, but she says, "Someone has placed a swap spell on you. The dead baby is about to be transferred to your body soon." I think she's a liar, but she says, "Hurry up and try to make yourself vomit. You should try to throw up as much of that fish you just ate as you can."

He is looking at me like I’m a simpleton he needs to educate. A memory flashes from the back of my mind, the kind you dredge up on quiz night. The 200-year bride swap. An archaic peace-keeping tradition where a royal from each of the five supernatural kingdoms is married off to another species for at least ten years, guaranteeing the treaties hold for the next 190. Rinse and repeat, every two centuries. And here I am, caught straight in the middle of it, with the werewolves. Shit. Why did I have to get the year that we’re swapping with the animals?

Anyone with medical knowledge could tell with a single sniff. After hearing this, Aunt Marguerite fixed her piercing gaze on my stepmother. "Someone go fetch Physician Hartwell from the Royal Medical College to examine it."

Everyone in our neighborhood knew me as the meek full-time housewife. I had no income and no social life. Yet when I woke up, I had somehow swapped bodies with my insufferably smug husband, Kevin Carter. My phone lit up as he sent one mocking message after another: [Olivia, you act like having a baby entitles you to lie around at home all day, watch the kid, and throw together a couple of meals.] [For your information, this swap is permanent. I can finally get some rest.] [Don't run your mouth at my office. That management job is way beyond what a brain that never even made it through col

It's not Latin or any other language I am conversant with. However, under the foreign text, it seems someone has translated the language and also in a neat handwriting. The discovery instantly makes me feel so much better. Slowly, I read the translated text. And then, I read it again. “No,” I whisper. “Yes,” Fiona says. She turned the pages and found that this was indeed a book of spells, not just one of traditional remedies. Her eyes widened as she flipped through the spells. A tingle ran through her fingers as she read one for casting light in the darkness. Confused she looked at her hands. They seemed to glow slightly. She flexed her fingers experimentally. “ Please stop believing in the impossible.” “ Just..” Sera cut in. “ Stop lecturing and just tell me the damn thing I do say about it.” The maid pulled back in surprise. The princess never talked like that. But just then, she slumped with tears in her eyes. “ You call it soul swapping.” “ Soul swapping?” She nodded. “ You've always believed in the impossible, like ghosts, wandering souls, swapping souls…” “ That swapping souls, tell me more about it.” “ You said that's when souls swap bodies, whereby one person's soul wakes up in another body.’
