Amber was curled up on the couch in the living room, a soft blanket draped over her legs. The mid-afternoon light filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room. In her hands, she held a thick book with dog-eared pages and a few notes scribbled in the margins. “Child Development: From Theory to Practice” was printed on the cover in sleek, bold letters. She was engrossed, her eyes moving carefully over the words, her brow slightly furrowed in focus. Amber wasn’t expecting anyone, so when the sound of the door opening broke the quiet, she nearly dropped the book.

Author’s POV Amber sighed, torn between wanting to be left alone with her thoughts and a tiny spark of curiosity about whatever Bella was offering. She ambled back into the room, dragging her feet, and saw Bella holding out a hardcover novel like it was some kind of miracle cure. From where she stood, Amber couldn’t even read the title, just a glossy cover with swirling gold lettering and two shadowy figures locked in what looked like an intense embrace.
