Neither of us answered. But we didn’t need to. She could see it plain as day. Zelda's Pov The town hall smelled like old wood and dust. Everyone had shown up. They were packed shoulder to shoulder, murmuring and craning their necks to see over one another. No one knew exactly what this was about, but after what happened at the Hawkes' house... they had a good guess. Dad stood at the center of it all. No tie. Shirt sleeves rolled up like he’d just stepped away from serious work. That was the image he liked to project. Always the man in control.

It had changed so much over the years but she could never forget this place. “This is Tech Town!!” Jill yelled with excitement. “Everyone, I would like to formally introduce you to Tech Town. This was the first place me and Charles built together when I was a kid. It’s changed a lot but I will never forget. I haven’t been here in ages”

Marcus was winning the war of words, and the board was starting to listen. I sat in my office late into the evening, the city lights reflecting off the dark surface of my desk. I had spent four hours on back-to-back calls with nervous investors. They didn't care about the truth anymore. They cared about the stock price, which was fluttering like a wounded bird. "They want a town hall," I said, my voice sounding raspy to my own ears. "The major shareholders. They want me to stand in front of them and prove I’m not losing my mind."

He was well known for his contribution to Bluebridge and the community, but to be elected as Mayor would be a major leap. Literally, everyone in town gathered at the Town Hall for the announcement. Even though the hall can only accommodate about 100 people, everyone else scattered outside the building in the bazaar area, the tents for dining areas, dancing, raffles, and other activities for the event. It was the first time Charlene ever attended an event like that. She was seated in the front row alongside her mom and important town's people. The Mayor delivered a speech with praises for Bill Ludlow because he was the number one supporter of the new candidate as his tenure will soon expire.

Almost all town halls themselves were the exact same design, and so the Ravens learned to spot them on sight. Eva supposed it was the best performing design. Or at the very least, the default blueprint that was good enough so no-one bothered to modify it. The sounds of shouting and arguing grew louder and louder the closer they approached the center square. And when they arrived, they saw throngs of people arguing amongst each other. Mostly, it seemed like colonists and Federation marines were debating with each other. Heatedly. And everyone was armed. It would be as if I have failed and disappointed my parents. The rest of the journey is in silence. When we reach the town, we notice that everyone seems to be walking in a particular direction. It’s the direction of The Court House. The Court House is where the leaders make announcements to the people. It is also used by the council to judge among the people and leaders. “This town is beautiful.” Jack says and I look to him. “Yeah, it is. The huts here are more fancier and grander.” I inform him and his face scrunches up in confusion.

Mara said. “No,” Aria agreed. “They are wrong about the cure.” The first town hall was held in District Nine. Aria did not attend. Neither did Luca. They watched. The Continuity Council representative spoke with practiced warmth. “We understand the fear,” she said. “We understand the exhaustion.” Nods rippled through the audience. “We are not here to undo progress,” the woman continued. “We are here to stabilize it.” Someone asked about Aria. The woman smiled sympathetically.

So I went. The venue was a townhouse in the Upper East Side that Maggie had used for foundation events for twenty years. Forty guests, board members, donors, a few city officials, and people Maggie described as community anchors, teachers, social workers, a woman who ran a food bank in the Bronx that the foundation had supported for a decade.

Cassidy said under her breath, sending the car screeching to a stop in the middle of the busy street. A couple blocks away from the University was Town Hall. Only a sprawling garden and a few skillfully placed fountains blocked the pedestrians on the sidewalk from the main entrance. It mirrored a famous human building located in the capital of the country and stood tall with its four large pillars and abundance of square windows. Rather than a white-turned-eggshell sandstone on the exterior, there was slate grey paneling.

“Alpha Kieran,” the town Mayor says with a bow. “Forgive the early visit, but I thought it best to inform you before the townspeople hear it.” Kieran crosses his arms, leaning against the wall of the living room with the others occupying the couch or at the corners. “What is it?”
