"It's a trophy. Wear it." Cale looked at the book again. "Elion?" "Yeah?" "If this is fiction... does that mean we can change the ending?" "The book is printed, Cale. We can't change it. It's ink." "No. I mean... our ending. The real one." Elion looked at him. "We are changing it every day," Elion said. "In the book," Cale said, "it ends on the deck. With the sunset. With the promise." "Yeah."

Clara's POV This is how it ends. Not with a dramatic reversal or a final revelation. Not with justice arriving in a thunderclap or love declared in a doorway. Those things had their moments earlier in the story and they were real and they mattered. But the end of a life, even a life that contains a death and a rebirth and all the specific architecture of everything I have told you, does not arrive as a single moment. It arrives in the morning. This morning.

My eyes snapped open to Charles's gaze, dripping with feigned emotion. I shoved him away, taking in deep breaths, unable to mask my revulsion. Unprepared, Charles staggered back. His eyes, a blend of skepticism and concern, probed me. "I came back right after the party ended and found you trapped in a nightmare, looking furious. Who's gotten under your skin?" I regained my composure, realizing dawn had broken. "I watched a movie last night," I murmured, "about a husband, a childhood friend, who betrays his wife. After more than twenty years together, he finally shows his true face. It was pretty awful."

He simply smiled with a look of relief. The apple rolled to the ground, picking up dirt. From the start, Zach had been provoking Jessica on purpose. I looked at the blood spreading on the ground and at Zach's collapsed body, then at the frail and blind Jessica. I understood it all. This was Zach seeking redemption using Jessica. At the very end, Zach seemed to see me. His eyes were pleading. "Annie, now that I did this, will this make you feel any better?" As my own body faded, I realized this might be the last thing I would ever say. I looked right at him and gave a cold, cruel smile.

" It doesn't have a body but I can imagine its dumbfounded face when I asked a completely out of nowhere question. I wasted no time waiting for it's the answer "Silence means yes." Then, I look blankly on the white space and think about an image of a glass table and sofa. Before the system can even ask what I'm doing, those things suddenly appear midair in front of us. "How can you do that?" It whispered, sounds kinda helpless to me. 'Yup, just like the novel.' I thought and a seat comfortably before starts seriously asking some necessary questions. "Okay? How can I redeem my world from that? Saving the world? That sounds bad for me." How can I prevent a world from ending if I can't even sav

Holding the tie, I closed my eyes and tiptoed. Either the fate played wicked keeping them apart or played virtuous bringing them together. It played until their souls chased each other.
