What have I discovered? There he was looking at the illumination with complete wonder. He wonders why the hall is like that, is this mysterious? he thinks but since he has never been a fan of superstition and the fact that he is a science student lets him conclude it must be some electrical wiring causing everything. He tries to open it but doesn’t know how to, it’s all flat lying on the stone table. He looks on the glass, it’s written, ‘Just wish’. Could this book be important, kept here?

I just want to bury anything related to her. But, while I was finally cleaning my bedroom, which she had occupied for a few months, I discovered a book on my bookshelf that she had asked me to buy previously. As I examined the book, I was surprised; I had never found any of her belongings before when looking for proof; did I simply overlook this one? I took a look at the book and discovered it was a mystery thriller; I chuckled in disbelief when I saw the title, "The Weight Of Lies." Seriously, Sierra? This was the one you chose out of all the books you could have left?

Her heart was pounding in her chest, and she felt like she was in a dream. Mathias laughed excitedly. “Magic...the book helped me unlock powers that I didn't know I had, and I spent all night learning many tricks and spells,” he said, bringing out the book from his bag and placing it gently on the grassy surface. He caressed the cover with his fingers, as if it was a precious treasure. “Wow!...so you learned this trick from this book?” Clara asked, paying keen attention to the strange book. It was big and old, and it didn't look like something magical, but she was wrong, obviously. There was something mysterious and alluring about it that made her want to know more.

It has never been my goal to impress my sister with anything I do. I scroll through the books in the library until I come to my favourite section, Mystery. I always love the thrill that comes with not knowing what's going to happen next. You can make it more interesting for yourself if you start to wonder what is happening and what will happen. I take a few glances through the books on the shelves and take a book that looks the most interesting out of all the books I saw. 'In the Woods' by Tana French.

It pricks my interest and I wonder why I didn’t see it before. Guess I was too cut up trying to find a way and escape the suffocating smoke in the space. Scooting over, I grab the book. It’s an old leather-bound journal with several drawings and writings. I sit back down on the creaky floor, folding my legs together and then I flip through the first page that has a written sentence. “The world is dark. Full of myths. But how much do humans know?” That statement alone stirs my nerve and my curiosity flares to the nth degree. I turn the next page and surprisingly a picture falls off.

I turned back to it and wrote slowly: ‘What are you? The book responded almost instantly: ‘I am a Living Book. I can answer any question. I know all that was, and all that is.’ I pondered on those words, all the was, the future, all that is, the present, then what about the future? I decided to try asking it. ‘What about the future?’ I wrote. There was a pause. ‘I do not know the future. The future is shaped by choice.’ it wrote. I let out a soft giggle, stunned. “This… this book is amazing. It actually talks back, it answers anything.”

The curtain is white and almost every other thing in the room. I turn back, feeling scared that I have been kidnapped. What happened? I ask inwardly again, trying my very best to remember what happened. The inquisitive me ignores the little question in my brain when I spot a small bookshelf with several books on it. The curiosity takes the better of me because I find myself taking slow baby steps toward the shelf. I pick up the first book my hand comes in contact with and I see New York Best Selling written boldly on it. I gasp.

In the end, the inquisitive one won but first, I listened for footsteps and when I could make out none, I got off the bed and went for the book, flicking its first page open. The only person who could give me a book was Zena but it was also weird, what kind of book it was. It wasn’t the usual one we both read and enjoyed. It was some sort of self-help book and its title was even more weird. “Kicking trauma’s butt with style!”

The moment she crosses the threshold and her feet met the cool, welcoming touch of her bedroom floor, she allows herself to sink onto her bed, the cushions yielding to her weight. With a deep sense of purpose, she extends her hand towards the book nestled on her bed, cradling it tenderly. Astrid could scarcely contain her curiosity, her fingers quivering with the exhilaration of the adventure awaiting her. As she opened the book, she was instantly transported into a world as captivating as the printed pages itself, where words spun tales of Supernatural beings beyond her wildest imagination. What the hell is happening here? “What the fuck?” I say. Is this some kind of prank that Victor’s decided to pull? He should know that we are not in high school anymore, and this kind of behaviour is nothing but stupid. I don’t understand what this means, but I know it’s nothing good. I don’t know what to do. Should I touch the book? Should I even go near it? What if something bad happens to me if I do touch the book? The book finally stops moving, and it stays on one page. There’s an image in the book. I look hard at what’s being portrayed, and it’s the image of a beast with large horns.
