She was so lost in the wonderment of it all that she didn’t realize everyone else was finished with their meal until her father rose to speak. “ We would like to thank you all for being here this week as Dryven completes the trial. As you all know the prophecy states that whichever one of the cauldron born who completes the trial will be the greatest among us and the one to unite us all. Now we would be honored if you all would join us on the morning ride.” And with that being said her father and mother with an other worldly grace make their way out of the hall.

Why would he even inform her of such trivial details? Callum closed the backdoor of his car and Bea entered the car without waiting for Callum. She looked at Caleb who was comfortably seated on his car seat and was now scrolling on his iPad. “What are you doing, Caleb?” Bea asked when she saw that his attention was focused on what he was doing. “I was just browsing. I’m looking for a good book to read next,” Caleb answered without even looking at her. “What?” Bea asked though she already heard what he said for the first time.

And Caleb… Caleb was gone. Only a scorch mark remained where he had stood, burned deep into the earth. “What the hell was that?” Andrew breathed. I swallowed hard, my hands shaking as I wiped dirt from my face. “I don’t know.” But deep down, I did. Caleb had been a phantom, a remnant of something unnatural. His presence in this world had been wrong. And whatever magic had kept him tethered here—it had just been shattered. Jacob snarled, his rage unrelenting. “This isn’t over,” he spat, his chest heaving.

Caleb had ripped his arm off. I winced and turned away. I'd never been a fan of gore or torture. Just then, the rest of Caleb's hunt party arrived. “We're taking him back alive. He's refusing to talk” Caleb said simply as he stood up, adjusting his black shirt. They lifted up the rogue and left when Caleb signaled for them to do so.

Demi. What the hell were they doing here? I forced myself forward. My boots were almost silent on the marble, but inside, my pulse was a goddamn thunderstorm. The massive doors to the throne room were half-open. I stopped there, half-hidden in the shadows. Caleb stood tall in his old Alpha posture, shoulders squared, chin raised, as though he still commanded a pack instead of being the traitor who had sold it. His hair was shorter now, a faint scar cutting across his temple, a souvenir from the last time Cardan's mansion was raised and burned perhaps. He looked older, worn down. But still him. Still magnetic in that cold, cruel way.

Alessa was already typing, her laptop glowing dimly beside her like a lifeline. Disha flipped through her notepad, her lips pressed into a thin line. Sharp. Alert. This wasn’t just a briefing.
