Toya lifted her brow and Wendy bit her lip. “I know you are saying something when you point at the rock in your hand here. Aim. I’m going over the ingredients and there are some random herbs we are missing and we should be able to find them at a regular store. Thyme, rosemary, stuff like that.”

With a wave of my hand I sent a book on potion recipes and another on cursed objects back onto the shelves. A slight headache throbbed at my temples by the time I found what book I was looking for. There was no missing that strange symbol, the one Dain had showed us painted on the wall. I flipped to the beginning of the chapter and stared down at the word, ‘Illusion spells.’

The seer gave me a small silver charm and a vial of blue liquid. “Place this charm beneath his bed and pour three drops of this on his forehead while he sleeps. It will draw the darkness out. But beware, the spirit will fight back.” I thanked her and shifted into my wolf form, running through the misty path until the villa came into view. That night, I crept into Manuel’s room again. I leaned over and brought it out. Dusting away the dirt on it, I glanced at the book. Its cover was black leather, etched with sigils that pulsed faintly as if alive. “Spell of forbidden magic,” I read out loud. Dark magic. Forbidden magic. It was the same kind of spell I was sure Darius used on me.
