I was reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, not the first time with this masterpiece, but my admiration never fades away. Jane undeniably is one of the most amazing characters I have encountered in a book. Her perseverance in the face of adversity, her strong personality and wisdom always leaves me awe. There was something about her that I felt deeply connected with, a major reason I always turn back to this book when my life tides seem to get violent.

I donated a dozen books from the Barlowe house—stories I wanted other young girls to find: Jane Eyre, Little Women, The Secret Life of Bees, Becoming, The House on Mango Street, and more. I press back against the shelf, scanning the features of the person who has just walked into the room, in nothing but a towel wrapped around his waist, damp hair sticking to his forehead. “Jane Eyre,” he murmurs, his eyes falling to the book between us. When he looks up back at me, he has this expression nestled in his eyes. “I would have shelved you as a Pride and Prejudice girl.”
