He treated me like a King would one moment, distant and cold, and then the next, like… like this.
He gestured to the study doors and pushed them open. The sight inside made me wince: shelves upon shelves of books, polished furniture, scrolls stacked with precise order. He led me in, his hand brushing the small of my back to guide me.
I stepped quickly aside, afraid of that touch burning too long on my skin.
“Look carefully,” Ro said, pointing to the shelves. “Do you notice anything wrong?”
I glanced over the rows, then back at him. To me, they looked like rows of books. How was I supposed to know what was wrong?
