Seeing my mom and Bryden in their armor was quite impressive. “Mom this is where we saw the wild tayrens.” I looked around hoping to see them again, but none was in sight. “They do travel Hun, even through the portals to other worlds.” My mom said as we hovered. “So, Galen, you want to see if I am a worthy opponent?” Bryden asked Galen as he activated his glowing red and gold sword, “Ready to go?” Galen smiled and activated his flaming sword. “You bet.” He said ready to go at it with Bryden.

I also prayed earnestly that he didn’t forget me here. I spotted a bookshelf at the far end of the room and decided to look through it in hopes of finding something to read. The majority of the books were about werewolves and the pack’s history. There were also books about politics, war, and governance. I would have loved to pick up the book that contained information on all members of the Crescent Moon Pack, but I decided against it. It would seem like snooping. I finally settled on a book titled ‘The Art of War.’ Not that I was a fan of violence but I was curious to know why the author had referred to war as an art. It was such a controversial claim.

I shut one door behind me, leaving the other open in case the doors were to lock behind me. The place is huge and mysterious. My people had called the barbarians an unintelligent race with no interest whatsoever in edification; an unclean, uneducated species. But judging by the books and paintings hung on the walls, these people do not live up to the stereotypes from Bellechester. My fingers scrape across the spines of the books, a thick layer of dust coming off my skin. These books and parchment scrolls and paintings haven't been touched in years. I hesitated before reaching for the first book and opening it. I spent the next hour reading a rather captivating book on the art of war. I’d never really been interested in military warfare, but seeing the Author describe some of the more underhanded tactics I’d seen even the King employ in his conquest of the northern region, I couldn’t help but be curious. I read even long after he finally slept, his snores a soft background to the words I raptly consumed. A small knock on the door was what dragged me out of there and I was taken by my guard back to the harem, marveling at my incredibly good luck. To think that such a Patron was possible in a sea of perverted monsters.

Cela just smiled. The viewing starts in a few minutes. Everyone gets ready to take their seats. Almost everyone came except for Nate. Good thing, Lora didn’t tell Cela about her invitation. The Wolf at the Gate: Raventon’s Hidden Histories. I pick it up and flip through the pages. It’s all wrong, of course. Half the lore is twisted nonsense. But it’s also fascinating. Reading what humans think they know. What they’ve guessed at and what they’ve made up to explain what they can’t see.

Wow. I was drooling. It wasn't just a room with books. It was a sanctuary. Floor-to-ceiling shelves packed with hardcovers, a rolling ladder, a massive fireplace that looked like it hadn't been used in decades. The scent of old paper and leather hit me, comforting and familiar. I ran my finger along the spines. ‘The Art of War’, ‘Sun Tzu’. ‘Histories of the Roman Empire’. Biographies of kings and conquerors. Heavy stuff. Interspersed with them were fiction classics. Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Dumas.
