The massive iron-reinforced gates of the Obsidian Hold ground open with a deafening screech, and thousands of roaring predators poured out onto the blood-stained valley, their star-silver alloyed blades ready to finish the harvest.

Jai looked at the gate in front of them. It was a huge gate, shaped like an arch and made of iron. A large symbol was imprinted on both sides. The walls were higher than the iron gate, and Jai could see soldiers patroling above the walls. They looked very small because of the distance.

Saron turned to the other window and saw them land on several of the enemies. Another red flash hit the gate; it began to open. Saron ran over to the window once again and sent one larger ball of light down and hit the man’s bier. He did not bother to watch but ran down the steps and out the door. He moved quickly toward the main road and behind the Menian army. It did not take long, and the Northwest gate fell. Werewolves and trolls came pouring into Ver Nooy. Lancers and knights met them as a steady stream of red blood began to flow down the road toward a gutter as the Menians fell.

He bellowed, his voice echoing his urgency. The guards at the gate sprang into action, their movements a blur as they worked together to close the massive barrier. Amani’s army pressed forward, a formidable surge of power and precision, closing the distance with terrifying speed. They were mere feet away when the gate clanged shut with a resounding thud, the impact thrumming through the air. The sudden barrier brought them to an abrupt halt, their momentum broken as they skidded to a stop just inches from the gate.
