THE SHADOW LUNA

THE SHADOW LUNA

CHAPTER SIX : THE FIRST DEATH Lyra woke up cold. Not regular cold. Not the kind of cold that came from winter weather or a lack of blankets. The kind of cold that came from lying on frozen ground with no pack bond to keep you warm. The kind of cold that sank into bones and stayed there. The kind of cold that could kill. She opened her eyes slowly. Everything hurt. Her head pounded. Her chest ached like someone had carved out her heart with a dull knife.

From Shadow to the Longest Sun

From Shadow to the Longest Sun

Smirk sharp as shattered crystal. “Didn’t I give you one just as grand last week? What’s there to envy?” His fingers tightened on her waist, backing her against the wrought-iron pergola draped in jasmine. “Play your part. Don’t slip around Lena. Everything she has? You’ll have it too.” Now I remember. Five nights ago, crimson meteors streaked across New York’s southern skyline, a blood-magic spectacle. He’d texted: “Clan emergency. Working late.”

Blood and Bones

Blood and Bones

My father thinks I spend my nights reading. That’s not entirely a lie. Just not books. This room is mine in a way no other room in this house is mine. The rest of the townhouse is my mother's taste — warm and beautiful and expensive, every surface chosen to project exactly the image the Conti family wants projected. My room looks like the inside of my head. Whiteboards on two walls, half of them network maps, the other half cipher keys I've already cracked. A punching bag in the corner worn to gray leather at center mass. Gun cabinet beside the closet — three weapons, combination lock. My father knows about two of them. I find the thread at 3:12 a.m. A routing number. Buried six layers deep,

THE NIGHT SHADOW

THE NIGHT SHADOW

It was an operational habit she had formed over the years; she preferred the shadows over the bright, exposed lights of the main street. As she began her solitary walk down the long, cobblestone alleyway, an uncomfortable sensation crept along the back of her neck. The air felt heavy, charged with a sudden, subtle tension. She felt it instinctively—the unmistakable impression that someone was trailing her steps. She stopped abruptly, snapping her head back to scan the darkness behind her. Nothing. The alleyway was completely empty, save for a few rusted trash bins and the flickering glow of a broken streetlamp.

In the Shadow of Lies

In the Shadow of Lies

Without looking back, I vanished into the snow. Andrew stood in the snow, staring in the direction I had gone. His hoarse voice drifted through the wind. "You won't abandon me, Eleanor." A month later, at a bar in Glaciercrest Pack, I sat by the window, sipping coffee as I admired the snowy landscape outside. The murmurs of travelers around me reached my ears. "Did you hear? Darkmoon Pack’s strongest warrior confessed to murdering his ex-father-in-law and was sentenced today." My fingers froze around my coffee cup.

Alpha Xavier's Second Chance Mate

Alpha Xavier's Second Chance Mate

A treasure trove, it was. I ran my fingers on old books, searching for anything that could engage me. There were volumes on pack history, ancient texts, and even some on herbal medicine that caught my eye. But then, one book titled The History of the Shadow Tomb, intrigued me. Shadow tomb’s history? The history that bound my bloodline to this pact, the one that thrust me into this marriage. I barely knew about Shadow Tomb and its history. Only the members the moon Goddess chose could read it. And I wasn’t one of them. Bellina was the one, and maybe Xavier too.

Audrey Coulombe
I really like this series! It’s original, hot, well written and we get attached to the characters. There’s so many of them tho that I can’t just read without taking notes ... But it doesn’t change the fact that the book is great! Really liked Gabriella and would like to get more on Derrick!

Sigils of Blood and Shadow

Sigils of Blood and Shadow

The library descends into an uncomfortable silence, one I'm itching to break but I don't say anything, patiently waiting for him to speak. “Did you see the rift?” I nod. “It wasn't there when I left.” “And it's just the beginning. Even before you left, the shadows in our realm had intensified but we've been able to keep them at bay and prevent things from escalating. And now we have rifts.” Leaning back on his couch, fatigue washing over his face, he sighs, “Who knows what else will come? The human realm is collapsing, so is our realm but at a more obvious level.”

Balance of Light and Shadow

Balance of Light and Shadow

Plead for him to save our pups, but my voice gets carried away as a whisper in the night. I trip over a root and spin to take the impact on my side and shield my pups. It’s only when I look back that I can see it wasn’t a root. It’s a shadow. They crawl out of the earth around me and reach for my limbs as I thrash against them. It’s no use. They pull down with such force, I’m sure the bones in my ankles and wrists have cracked. The largest of the shadows hovers above me and lifts my shirt to see my precious bump. It caresses my skin as I scream at them to leave, only to hear a mocking laughter echo back.

Just finished binge-reading Leigh Bardugo's Grishaverse stuff, and the first thing I landed on for that same vibe was Anna Smith Spark's 'The Court of Broken Knives.' It's got that grim, militaristic feel where the magic is cruel and the world feels like it's actively decaying around the characters. The prose is almost poetic in its violence—really stark and different from Bardugo's style, but it scratches that itch for a setting where power has a real, ugly cost.

Also, don't skip Katherine Arden's 'The Bear and the Nightingale.' It's more rooted in Russian folklore like 'Shadow and Bone,' but with a slower, more atmospheric creep. The darkness there feels ancient and hungry, seeping in from the winter forests. Less army battles, more intimate, chilling dread in a village setting. I found it a fantastic follow-up for the folkloric elements.
