Patrilia asked, looking around him. "I don't know. It may be wild animals. Don't forget, we are not staying in some fucktown or rural house. "We are spending another night in this goddamn mountain, full of trees, wild animals, and beasts." She chuckled, going to her own room.

Only now, standing here listening to Hallie's cruel confession, did the pieces click into place with sickening clarity. I traced the spine of each book with my fingertip, whispering the titles softly.

I also sought answers since I was becoming more concerned about Veyron and Darius's involvement in my demise. The gold-embossed titles of leather-bound books faded with time as my fingertips traced along their spines. But, so was my disappointment at the interior. It was normal. There was a half full coffee pot and sterile white mugs lined up like you would see in any hotel lobby. It had a child's painting on the wall with painted hands. It was a bit like a doctor's office in that way as the child's handwriting was scrawled dislexically. I looked at it as the only alien thing in the room, but it was really cute. There was a small beta male who was in scrubs eating something that looked like a burrito wrapped in deli papers at one of the booths. He had an open black lined notebooks which was covered in an untidy scrawl. I could only see diagrams of frogs before he closed it so I couldn't read it.
