Booktok Tropes Novels & Stories

She needed to tell me that the person she'd always loved was me. However, she didn't think that I would vanish into thin air afterward. She couldn't find a trace of me anywhere. Meanwhile, Leroy and Erica were tortured in the tiger enclosure for three months before finally succumbing and turning into tiger feed. … I stared at the final bloody scene and felt a shiver run down my spine. I asked the system, "Wait, but isn't Leroy supposed to be the male protagonist? How could he die?" "That's the problem. The book universe is built around the male and female protagonists, but now that the male lead is dead, the entire world should have already collapsed."

That night, I knew her body was on the verge of giving in. But that was not how I wanted things to happen. Hell. I don’t even know what I want to happen between us anymore. Katriona was an unexpected twist in this game. I didn’t want to but I found myself suddenly cracking a smile when I read the title of the book she was reading. 101 Ways To Defeat The Northerners. I didn’t know I had such a book hanging inside my house. Had I known, I would have burnt it a long time ago.

You don't mind, do you? I was just about to reply when several comments suddenly appeared in front of me. "So the female lead is abandoned after the male lead gets a taste of forbidden fruit. Then he realizes his mistake and goes chasing after her again. Are you seriously expecting VIP clients to watch such a cliched romance trope?" "I've had enough of the girl always sucking up to the guy. Women are not sluts!" "She decided to sleep with her childhood sweetheart even though they're not in a relationship. It's her own fault if she gets dumped."

Let me make one thing very fucking clear..I am not dumb. I know how to write a thesis. I know what a literary device is. I know the difference between Milton and Dante and how to properly quote Paradise Lost without sounding like a sophomore who just discovered metaphors. I did the reading. I did the extra credit. I literally begged that book to give me insight. So why the hell did I get a B+? Again? I stood there staring at my essay like it had personally betrayed me. My name looked smaller now. The title, too. Everything felt… pathetic. Like I had bled for this essay and Professor Wolfe just bled on it. With a fucking pen.

I liked knowing people wanted me, even if most of them couldn't have me. But that was before him. The new professor. Michael Bollin. But all, these were the fun parts because what bothered me were the rules—there were almost always too many of them. And I hated it. As if I didn't thoroughly enjoy breaking each and every rule I happened to come across. It excited me. I have heard people say a million times that I was a reckless piece of shit willing to set relationships on fire and watch it burn. They weren't wrong. That was how I lived, how I wanted to.

Yet here I was, forced to swallow the unimaginable. Satisfied that she had quenched a thirst I never had, Selene pressed a book into my hands. One glance at the cover made my heart sink. Trolls. Of course it had to be trolls. In that instant, I understood Kael’s disdain for the entire franchise. This girl’s obsession was unlike anything I had ever witnessed. It coated her world—her words, her shelves, even the Princess Poppy hair ties woven into her braids. She could walk into a boardroom tomorrow and sell their brand better than any professional, all without knowing she was doing it.

“What do you think about this?” Nico took the book and glanced through it, trying not to think about the electric jolts that had bolted up his spine at the brush of their fingers. He flipped through the book, his eyes taking in the words on the pages. “A reincarnation trope?” he asked, squinting his brows. “Mmhm.” “So why’s it so lackluster? I know I’m only skimming but I haven’t caught a single glimpse of anything interesting or attention-worthy in these pages.” Nico glanced up at Theo, a genuine confusion on his face. “Is this normal?”

"You keep telling yourself that, nerd." "Don't call me that" He leaned over and mock-whispered, “I’m scared now." A server came by and we ordered our coffee, black for him, vanilla oat latte for me. Once they walked away, Christian leaned forward, elbows on the table, that ever-present smirk on his face. "So what is this book, anyway? Witchcraft for Beginners? How to Hex Your Ex?" I scoffed. "No, it's a comparative analysis on supernatural war tactics over the last two centuries. It goes into detail on Flare magic, territorial blood pacts, and..."

With a slow gesture, Julian slipped his hand into his coat pocket and pulled out the book she had given him days ago. The one she thought he'd probably forgotten. He placed it carefully on the counter between them. "I finished it," he said. Lena's eyes fluttered closed. "You. did?" He nodded. "And?" Julian's jaw tightened. "It made me angry." She took a breath. Not the reaction she'd expected. "Why?" "Because the protagonist ran," he said, voice low and rough. "He lost something. Someone. And instead of fighting. he gave up. He fell in on himself. He wasted the second chance he was given."

“There were so many good books at the library. Why did you have to choose a book with a trope like that, Melinda?” He spread out a few books in front of me as he continued; pointing to each one of them as he spoke, “You could have chosen a book loaded with humor to make you laugh; or science fiction story that explores the vastness of the universe; or, you could have chosen a book where the main leads live a long, happy life surrounded by loved one.” He threw up his hands in frustration. “But, NO. You had to choose a heart-breaking story that will shatter your soul and make you cry.” “Why are you over reacting like this Kain?” I held my head and sighed. “It is just a novel.”
