I knew he hadn't eaten properly with all the drama this morning. In the lobby, I bumped into Matthew. He was one of the lead software engineers, a tall, decent-looking guy who’d actually tried to shoot his shot with me before Jordan officially claimed me. Matthew stopped in his tracks, his jaw almost hitting the polished floor. He looked me up and down, completely mesmerized. "Catherine? Wow. You look... gorgeous. I mean, breathtaking." I gave him a little smirk, feeling pretty smug. "Thank you, Matthew," I said, smoothing down my dress.

She can see it in his eyes. MATE.

With a powerful tug, he threw the burly Matthew who weighed over 90 kilograms over his head, smashing him into the ground. Bang! The ground seemed to have shaken a little when Matthew landed, coughing out a mouthful of blood. Even Tyr winced a little as he watched. Thankfully Matthew was tough and sturdy. If anyone else had been smashed into the ground like a large hammer, they would’ve gone to heaven by now. Tyr looked at the time in his hand and involuntarily shook his head. Stephen and Matthew were down in just ten seconds. This was far from Tyr’s expectations. “F*ck!”

I stared at him, an unexplainable sadness stirring within me. "Then, would you be willing to become my fated mate?" I asked. He froze, surprised by my sudden question. He fell silent. I knew then that he was hesitating, struggling. He only desired to keep me as a toy, but he wasn’t willing to pay the ultimate price. "What? Not willing?" I laughed, "Your ‘love’ is worthless after all." "James, stop insulting me with your hypocrisy." I said coldly, turning to leave. "Emily!" He called out urgently, "Don’t be so unreasonable! I’ve humbled myself; what more do you want?"

Panic floods my mate bond and I try to get up, grabbing my mother and using her as an aide. “What?” I ask her and she swallows. “Ian is gone.”

"Hi. You must be Jonathan." "I am." The tall, gangly fellow with a disturbing comb-over and a bright red pinstripe suit extended his hand. Damon forced himself not to react as he extended his hand. "I'm Damon Bryant. This is my fiancé, Bethany. I'm Matthew's brother." "Lovely! I do believe one of the pieces Matt sent in originally was of you." Jonathan glanced over at Matt, who almost looked ill. "Is that right?"

This was ridiculous! My brother, Osborn, was my mate. The only person I feared most was my mate. When I was a child, when I was in despair, I dreamed that I would find a mate to take me out of my pack in the future. Later, as I grew older, I was rarely allowed to go out of our house. I gradually gave up the idea of looking for a mate. I thought that I would never find a mate in my life, and I would be tortured by the heat every month until I dead.

The sight of him knocks the air right out of me. I stare. Frozen. His mouth moves, and his voice echoes through the room. “I am officially putting the Mate Games on hold,” he says. “Effective immediately.” There’s a ripple of gasps and confusion in the bar. Some girl near the front makes a sharp noise, half-disbelief, half-anger. But I barely hear her. I’m too busy watching him.

TRACY “Alright. Please, let me know. Thank you.” Mother said all in a breath and then hung up. I was anxious to know what the outcome of the call was but the sad look on her face gave me all the answers I needed — it didn't work out either. “What did the man say?” I asked, watching her slump on the small couch in the room. “He said he doesn't have enough cash to make any investments right now. Maybe in five months, he would…”

It felt like he had met the one person he had been searching for. He shook his head sideways. "No, that can't be right. If really she is somebody I am meant to bond with, or if really she is supposed to be my mate, then my wolf would have announced it to me immediately. I saw her, but nothing like that happened. Which means that she does not belong to me. She is just my slave and someone who I would continue to torment for fun," he thought to himself as he sat down on his bed and continued to reminisce on everything that happened.
