Avery staggered back. Kael caught her before she fell.
“What did you see?”
“Someone like me,” she breathed. “Another Soulbound.”
Kael’s expression hardened. “That’s impossible. The records—”
“The records are lies,” she snapped, then stopped herself. Her voice trembled. “She was trying to contain it. The Vein. It broke apart because it refused her command.”
Kael’s eyes flickered with disbelief, but his silence was telling — he didn’t argue.
