Brash Investigators Novels & Stories

The name sharpened everything. I sat straighter. Brahms was busy breaking his biscuit into pieces over my trousers. “What did you find?” Lucia set the bag on the table. “A notebook. Some brake components. A newspaper clipping.” Isabella stepped closer. “We don’t know if any of it means anything.” “Show me.” Her eyes narrowed. “You came to see Brahms.” “I did.” “That doesn’t make this your investigation.” “No. But Michael Briggs was part of mine long before you knew his name.”

But seeing him now—calm, handsome, composed, carrying a quiet confidence—made her heart trip over itself. She forced her gaze away, tightening her grip on her notebook. Henry seemed to notice her slip and gently took over. “We apologize for coming unannounced,” he said. “But we wanted to keep this informal.” Adrian nodded once. “I understand.” Henry reached into his coat pocket. Clara stiffened in the corner. Rina quickly lifted a hand. “No, no—it’s just identification.” The two investigators pulled out their badges and placed them on Adrian’s desk. “We’re with the Investigation Bureau,” Henry explained. “Our names are Henry James and Rina Blake.”

' He ordered his driver, and the blacked-out SUV wove its way through the morning traffic as his fingers flew over the keyboard on his phone. 'Damn it.' He groaned; the media had already got hold of the story, and there was a continuous news loop running on CNN. 'Russian Bratva Principessa, Tavisha Khushanov, arrived downtown at the Police Precinct this morning in the ongoing case against MC club President Killian O'Hara. Also seen arriving was Dermot O'Connor, cousin of Killian O'Hara, who also happens to be the country's top lawyer in these cases, and arrived twenty minutes later.'

“The agents are coming out!” Instantly, dozens of cameras swung toward the entrance. The glass doors opened. A team of investigators emerged carrying sealed evidence boxes. Behind them came the leader of the operation, Agent Daniel Hayes. The moment reporters recognized him, the crowd surged forward. “Agent Hayes!” “Agent Hayes, over here!” Microphones appeared from every direction. Security personnel struggled to keep a path open as journalists fired questions. “Agent Hayes, can you confirm why JH Industries is under investigation?” Hayes remained composed.

Leaning over Tali’s body, Brashan checked for a pulse and found one. Reaching for his phone, he called Yuri back. “We have a problem,” he told him as soon as he answered. “I found Talli Janick knocked out and her office ransacked when I got here.” “Damn. Is she okay?” “I don’t know. Can you send Sazon over to check her out? Tell him to come in through the back door. I’m gonna look around and see if anything is missing but I don’t want to leave her on her own until I know what’s going on.”

Another one said and I fisted my hand in a ball. "Do. Whatever. You. Can. But. Then...." I said fuming in anger as I threw a big vase which is by my side shattering it into pieces. All five investigators who were there moved back a bit because of this disaster in front of them. They all looked at me in horror and then again hung their head down. "Why do I even pay you, haan? You all just know how to enjoy at my expense... How do you even get a tag of 'being best'? You all five are named as the best investigator by the London Times but then you can't even find a single information."

At the time, he was investigating the flow of funds from prominent families to police officers and a host of other state officials. "He was doused with hard water after coming home from the morning prayer at the mosque," said Mr. P. "What! ICEC investigators attacked? Who is he? and who did it? Damn it! That's cruel," I responded. "Sameer," Matt replied, "Sameer Nasri is the name of the investigator who became the victim. And the police haven't caught the culprit yet." "What? I remember that name. He was the ICEC investigator who arrested Brother Bowie. And now he was attacked by a stranger? Was the attack on him because he captured a prominent person," I said.

Enhancing her vision with the binoculars, she noticed that the lead crime scene investigator had gone stiff, one hand pressed against his walkie-talkie as he listened to an incoming transmission. His shoulders tensed as he absorbed the message. Then, without hesitation, he turned, barking orders. Breanna lowered her binoculars and reached for her phone. She didn’t hesitate in calling his number. The investigator answered immediately. “Yes Ma’am.” His voice was tight. “What's the situation?”, Breanna asked with a composed voice. “We just got a group bloodshed.” His deep voice reported. Breanna's grip on the phone tightened. “Location?, I will head there with the forensic squad”.

It crushed everyone standing too close. “We proceed carefully,” Briggs said. “Once this goes public, there will be fallout. Corporate. Political. Personal.” Sarah opened her eyes. “I’m ready.” The investigator studied her for a moment. “Most people say that. Few actually are.” She met his gaze steadily. “I didn’t survive to stop now.” *********** In an office that no longer felt like a place of power, James Striker stared at an envelope on his desk as though it might explode. The paper trembled in his hands.
