Bread Alone Novel Novels & Stories

I snapped. Vivian flinched and she pulled her hand back. "I... I was just saying that we should get rid of this bread. It’s so hard and tasteless. It’s peasant food. Surely we can afford something better now that the audit is done." I looked at the bread. It was the same bread the rest of the pack was eating. It was healthy and filling. "The bread is fine, Vivian," I said. "But it’s so dry!" Vivian complained. She looked at Adeline. "Is this what you’re making the pack eat? It’s embarrassing. If we had guests, I would be so ashamed."

"Bellafiore Bakery. Try not to have a stroke about the smell of good bread wafting into your fancy restaurant and reminding your customers that carbs exist." "You're opening a bakery. Next to my restaurant. After everything." Something flickered behind his eyes, something older than the ladder argument, older than the paint on her overalls — something that went all the way back to a funeral neither of them talked about, and a father who used to sneak her extra bread. "After everything," Ava agreed cheerfully, refusing to let the flicker slow her down, "your grandmother sold me the lease. Nonna business, apparently, is thicker than blood, and considerably harder to argue with."

The waft of fresh bread was filling the kitchen. “Wow, You made the bread.” Colt ran to it, and Elena ran after him. “Careful, it’s just been out of the oven.” She took him up in her arms and made him sit on the small chair she had gotten for him. Elle looked around. The place was simple, cozy, and nice. There was not a hint of any extravagance in it. The children’s book was lying on top of the table, and she smiled looking at the romance novels.

Alisa praised. "Haha..., you're too much, Alisa." “No, Mr. Schultz. I’m serious. I’ve never had bread as good as this in Clonovia. The ingredients must be very special.” “Well, if you call it special, you could say that. I made this bread from wheat grown directly in Karelia.” “Eh, what? Karelia?” Alisa was shocked when she heard that. “Yes. The East Karelia Mountains have very fertile soil that is not found in other areas. The commodities grown there are of very good quality. That is why I use it to make my bread,” said the fat man.

"You meanie! You knew that bread was hard and did this on purpose!" Seeing June nearly crying, Frederick quickly explained, "This is Fancenia's baguette, it's as hard as a stick. In fact, I once saw a kind old lady at Fancenia give one to a hungry homeless man..."

A faint, incredulous look that flickered across Damien’s face before he caught it. “Wrong,” he repeated. “Yes.” Damien set the book aside completely now. “I’m almost afraid to ask,” he said dryly, “but what exactly is wrong with the bread?” Caelan gestured vaguely. “It’s too soft.” “…too soft.” “And too sweet.” “It’s bread.” “It’s bad bread.” For a second— Just a second— Damien looked like he might argue. Then— Something shifted. And he didn’t. “What’s it like in the north?” he asked instead.

I listened closely, intrigued by their discourse and longing for answers, expecting to uncover the truths that remained concealed within my family's past. A cat strolled over, watching my movements as I cradled the fallen bread in my hands. Curiosity heightened, I motioned for the cat to approach, to see if it could detect my presence. To my surprise, it accepted my invitation, meaning that it could see me. In that instant, I had a startling realization: the bread that had previously slipped my hand was now within my grasp. I ate the bread with a mixture of disbelief and hunger, my appetite building with each bite.

I can see my father is touched to be included. "To Abigail, she leaves Bread." Our collective confusion shows on our faces, and Mr Thompson continues hurriedly, "Bread is a bakery located in The Lanes." "She left me a bakery? What? How?" I gasp. I look at my parents, and it is clear that neither of them has a clue either.

Max bubbled, "That's why I like them! I never liked green beans before. Who knew that it was all in the seasoning.” Damien asked, "Are we going to have enough bread for breakfast?" I laughed, "I was fully expecting this loaf to be gone tonight, so I made another one." Amanda asked, "The bread is homemade too?" I nodded, "Yes, it is." She crowed, "Son, you need to be on your knees, thanking the Goddess for sending Abby to be your mate. She's an amazing cook."

They all stood in front of Novelty, the book store that had been converted into a small book cafe with scrumptious cakes on display. Hazel's hands were flat against the store window, her face was busy looking at the cakes making Gage chuckle and he grabbed Bree's hands in his. "Come on, Bree, we're not letting her drool in front of a window store."
