“You shouldn’t be here,” he said hoarsely.
“And yet,” Aria replied, folding her arms, “here I am. Watching you drown yourself in the rain. What are you doing?”
“Breaking,” Ethan admitted simply. His voice was barely audible over the downpour. “I’m breaking, Aria.”
Her throat tightened, but she forced herself to remain steady. “You should go inside before you get sick.”
He gave an empty laugh. “What does it matter? The sickness is already here.” He pressed a fist against his chest. “It’s been here since the day I lost you.”
