Trade Breaker
Her cries echoed in the night, mingling with the screech of tires and the hurried footsteps of passersby.
The last thing she saw was the shadow of the mugger disappearing into the darkness, leaving her bruised and broken on the cold sidewalk.
Sapphire lay there in the cold, her body aching and her breath ragged. The sound of approaching footsteps filled the silence, but whether they were friend or foe, she couldn’t tell.
Her vision blurred, and the world around her began to fade. The last thing she saw was the faint glow of a streetlamp above her, flickering as if mocking her misery.
