God, it wasn’t easy. Every part of me screamed to react. My hands ached to curl into fists, to shove him back. My tongue burned with all the sharp words I wasn’t saying because that was my armor, my bite. My survival. But I remembered what Benjamin told me. I remembered the plan. Go lower, he said. So I did. If Camila wanted to play the saint pale and trembling and perfectly broken then I would crawl beneath her halo and drag André down with me. Not through rage. Through pity. Through silence. Through the echoing hollowness he left inside me.
