Standing on what seemed to be her last strength, Marie unlocked the door and noticed Steven and a lanky, good-looking guy with cropped brown hair and cool blue eyes staring at her. “Hi, Steven.” She said, trying to pull the blankets tighter around her. She was just about to say hello to the stranger when pain seized her middle, causing her to lose her balance. Without thinking, Marie let go of the blankets and found herself in Steven King's arms. She hoped desperately that the heat spreading through her was from the fever, not the feeling of his taut muscles against her skin.

She wasn't the girl clinging to fame or love though this time she was returning to this world on her own terms. "Are we heading to your office right now?" Philip Asked from the passenger seat "No," Arabella said calmly. "We head to Madison Tower first." Philip paused. "Are you sure?" She gave him a direct look. Indeed. I'd like to see it for myself. The car swerved through Manhattan, past honking taxis and glass towers, until it came to a building with a VALE TECH logo above the entrance and sharp steel lines. Sophie's head was nestled under her mother's chin as she slept on her shoulder.

Giada's POV Carlo Romano sent me the location of the snowy mountains in St. Morizia, along with a photo. The image captured a sweeping view of the villa. Its white stone walls and black steel framework gave the place a stark, minimalist feel. However, in the very center of the photo stood Adriana Montanari. Her long golden curls cascade over a white fur coat. I stared at her radiant, smiling face for a few moments. In that instant, I couldn't help but find it all hilarious.

She said as Evelyn stared at her stupefied. "No. It's not safe for him. How could I leave him behind to die?" Evelyn asked, crying. "He'll break if I leave him," she whispered, trembling as Brittany looked at her with despair. Marie was so scared when she had Evelyn but it was Brittany who comforted her and said Evelyn would bring a huge change in their world after all she was a forbidden child.

“You look like something happened.” I don’t know if I should talk about what just happened, and I certainly don’t feel like it. So I say. “It's been a long afternoon.” Brittany appears at the top of the stairs. She comes down without rushing, taking in the foyer in one sweep. Her eyes move over the guards, then focus on me. “Both of you go ahead. I will join you shortly.” Marianne looks like she intends to say something. Then she looks at Brittany’s face and decides against it. Benjamin follows with a shrug.

When we find exactly what we are looking for…nothing…we turn to head back up the rickety stairs. Getting back to Marietta and Brianna takes longer as we focus on feeling for anything that comes close to the kind of magic we feel from the Shadow Markers or even the flowing warmth we felt inside the barrier at the Rift.
