She held a worrisome and somewhat sad look on her face which made my chest ache because I knew she was finding it hard to believe and accept that someone was willing to love her despite the baggage she was carrying. "Maybe you're right," she finally said, looking at me with soft eyes. "But... I'm broken and messed up and have pieces of me all over the place. That's not something anybody should have to deal with, Noah."

I bumped into a guy who was holding a cup of wine in one hand and the bottle in the other. Unfortunately, the wine in the cup poured on my body while the bottle fell on the floor and broke. It was the guy's fault. He wasn't looking at where he was going. I felt so embarrassed as my cloth got ruined. ' What's your problem? What's all this? Couldn't you focus on where you were going?' I yelled angrily.

The words felt bitter on her tongue. Expressing thoughts verbally made them feel more genuine. She had wished—prayed—that this was a terrible dream from which she would awaken. However, it was not.

By the time I stepped outside the building, King and Giselle were already waiting near the front steps. "You look like you've been through a war," King said the moment he saw me. "I feel like it." I sighed. "Come on. I'll buy you coffee." He chuckled. "I'm broke." King raised an eyebrow. "Since when?" I hesitated for the briefest moment. Since this morning, when Ryan had thrown me out of his car before school and I'd been too embarrassed to admit I barely had enough money left to get through the week. Instead, I shrugged. "I... lost my money." The lie came easier than I wanted it to.
