I woke up with a strange tightness in my chest. It was not fear, but it was close. It felt like my heart was standing in the middle of a long road, one side pulling me forward, the other dragging me back. I lay there for a while, staring at the ceiling, trying to shake off the feeling, but it stayed. It sat heavy on my chest like a hand that would not move.

My breathing grew erratic, and I clutched at his chest, feeling the rapid beat of his heart beneath the fabric of his clothes. And then I felt it—a fourth finger, pushing its way inside. But just as it seemed like things were about to get out of hand, my expression changed. A sharp pain struck my chest, and my eyes widened in horror. My hand went up to hold my chest. I couldn't feel any physical pain but it felt like I was being cut open slowly. The pain was becoming increasingly much with time.
