For a while, Gemma just watched, her head comfortably leaning back against the couch while Freddy shouted out wildly incorrect guesses.
The game shifted from movie quotes to oddly specific rural knowledge. “Okay, next question,” the guy running the game yelled over the music. “What is the primary difference between straw and hay?”
Without thinking, Gemma blurted out, “Hay is dried grass with nutrients for feeding animals, and straw is just the leftover grain stalks used for bedding.”
The room went quiet for a second—then erupted in cheers and laughter. Freddy whooped, elbowing her in triumph. “Look at you, country genius!”
