Buried In The Sky Novels & Stories

Its mournful tune only adds to the gravity of the situation. I stand in silent watch as his casket is buried six feet under, a small smile playing at the corner of my lips. The twisted satisfaction runs through me like a drug, a euphoria that I never thought was possible. Who knew that watching someone being buried could bring such blissful joy?

"A man of your standing, Lord Alaric... I can hardly imagine anyone being foolish enough to take anything from you. Or perhaps, you simply misplaced it." A tight, dangerous smile tugged at the corner of his lips. It wasn't a smile of warmth; it was the look of a predator who had finally cornered its prey and was enjoying the frantic struggle before the strike. "Oh, it wasn't misplaced. It was buried. Deep beneath the soil where everyone thought it would turn to dust. But the thing about bad seeds is that they always find a way to grow back towards the light, no matter how much dirt you throw over them." The breath caught in my throat. The metaphor was too precise, the delivery too deliberate

GRAVEYARD~~ EVENING Olivia buried her daughter with the same hands that once held her the first time she entered the world. Nobody came with her to the graveyard, but she did not want anyone there anyway. At that moment, all she wanted was silence. She sat beside the freshly covered grave and slowly placed her trembling hand on it while tears rolled endlessly down her cheeks. All these years, she had only dreamed about Lily receiving a new heart and finally leaving the hospital healthy. Never once had she imagined burying her instead.

I quietly wiped my tears away and jumped off the cliff without any hesitation. "No!" Timothy woke up with a start, and his pajamas were drenched in sweat. Zoe was sitting by his bed, the rims of her eyes red while she shed tears in silence. "Timothy, is Melanie really dead?" Timothy's heart was now pounding with frustration. He got up and lit up a cigarette as he stood by the window. Alas, not even smoking a whole pack could ease the frustration he was feeling. Zoe's sobbing was nearly driving him insane.

I had actually died. I watched myself being buried. I watched as they lowered my body into the ground, watched the dirt being thrown over me while I stood there helplessly, unable to stop any of it. Every morning, I woke up drenched in cold sweat, my heart beating so fast it felt like it would burst out of my chest. I was beginning to fear sleep. For several days, I thought Kiara had finally given up. I knew it was her doing. She was too predictable, and there was no way something like that could keep happening without someone behind it.

The desert seemed endless at night. Beneath a sky scattered with cold stars, the dunes stretched in every direction like waves frozen in time, their pale surfaces glowing faintly beneath the moonlight. The landscape was beautiful in the way certain things became beautiful only after dark-vast, lonely, and indifferent to human suffering. Meera Rathore barely noticed any of it.

It's like someone was pouring a bucket of ice on him and under his feet an unquenchable fire trying to eat him alive. "I don't understand. I saw... I saw him getting buried. I saw that car explode! What do you mean he's alive?!" Sky holds his head, it's aching so much he can't handle it, he's gasping to breathe, his eyes forming tears again. What kind of joke was this? Who will stay sane after knowing this truth? He only wanted to be happy, he wanted to live a better life from now on but was heaven so spiteful that they can't grant him sheer happiness?

Never Lina. “Move!” Alex shouted. We ran. Through collapsing tunnels, through fire and smoke, through the last door between us and the night sky. The Jeep was dead. The world was alive. Somewhere behind us, Site Twelve fell in on itself—swallowed by the earth, erasing Nyx’s final gambit in concrete and flame. We didn’t stop until the trees swallowed us too. Until we collapsed together beneath a sky full of stars, gasping like survivors clawing out of hell.

***** [RAY Point-of-View] The sky was gray, and the clouds were heavy. It was as if everything was black and white in my life as I stared down at a grave with an empty heart. My throat was thick and sore and my eyes were puffy. The rest of the week, I stayed wasted and didn’t want to do anything with my life. As she lay six feet underneath, my heart was buried along with her cold and lifeless body. There was nothing left in me but the wonderful memories I had with her. Memories that will surely haunt me forever.

Yet, the sunflowers always wilted before long. Crushed by despair, the beggar eventually went mad. He murmured a single name repeatedly—Molly Reed.
