“Fuck. Are there investment slots?” Nathaniel chuckled quietly, clearly amused, as he guided her deeper into the lab. They stopped at the animal testing section, where rows of glass cages lined the wall. Inside them, laboratory rats lay under observation. Cassie’s smile faded instantly. Their tiny bodies trembled. Legs stiff. Movements limited. The paralysis was unmistakable. Nathaniel’s voice remained calm, precise, almost surgical. “This is where it begins.” A small group of professionals gathered around them, their attention snapping fully to Nathaniel as he made introductions. “This is Robert Gath,” he said. “Head of research.”

"Yes," She said before turning to face Kate. "Grocery shopping." "Grocery shopping? Doesn't seem so," Kate said, eyeing her suspiciously. "Are you going to visit your boyfriend, girl?" "What? No!" Caitlyn exclaimed with a nervous laugh and tucked her hair behind her ears. Kate noticed she was avoiding her gaze and concluded that she was shy.

Caitlin ran. A huge, blood-red sun sat on the horizon, and she ran right for it, through a field of mud. She looked down, and saw that the field was alive, and was completely blanketed with rats. Thousands and thousands of rats squealed as she ran through them, and as she did, she saw fleas jumping off of them in every direction. A swarm of fleas hovered in the air, and they climbed up and down her legs, covering her entire body, biting her like crazy. She felt her skin on fire from all the bites; she swatted them, but she couldn’t get them off.

I called out to the woman who was circling around the glass incubator and admiring the new creature. “What is it, Cara?” “I remember there was another small lab built with the MRI lab. The one that can isolate radiation…” That was the one I asked for when I first came here, wanting to do a comparative experiment.
