She already knew that Cali was always pulling pranks and teasing his friend. “Sure,” Sandra replied. “Why?” Denver asked in a weak voice. Both Sandra and Cali turned to look at him. Anthony and Madelle exchanged glances at what their son had said. Cali, trying not to laugh, thought to himself that if looks could kill, he’d have been lying on the floor by now. “I’m going there, and Doc bought it for me,” Cali explained. “What?” Denver stared at Sandra as if asking for an explanation, but instead of answering him, Sandra hugged Madame Madelle.

Skylar's POV 1:00 am. My parents were sound asleep in their room. Chicken was sound asleep in my room, curled up on my bed. The moon was up in the night sky, glowing brightly. And I, Skylar Anderson, was dressed up in a black T-shirt and jeans, my favourite denim jacket, and some butt-kicking motorcycle boots. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I realized that I kind of resembled those actors in gangster movies. I looked like one of those sketchy dudes lurking around the creepy alleyways of New York city, having anything but good intentions.

Drax, made from wild fungi and ethanol, was banned within the city limits but could be legally purchased and consumed in the Drock. Mother’s message was particularly relevant today, as my age now permitted me entry. Her second message was not to take unnecessary risks on the ice peaks I planned to climb, a message she knew I always ignored. The third was one I had received continually since my early childhood: “Skye, do not, under any circumstances, exercise your powers and bring attention to yourself.” I had asked why many times, only to receive the same answer. “Because I forbid it.” Or, as I grew older, “Because we have a special ability that can be dangerous and must be concealed.”

His sarcastic voice met my ear, making my blood boil. "Where is Cali!" I wanted nothing more than to punch that prick on his face.

Sky stepped in and immediately felt her blood kick up into something feral. “Alright,” she said, turning to Caleb and Charlie. “We’re doing this my way.” Charlie’s eyes scanned the room automatically, tracking exits, corners, elevated platforms, anything that could hide an enemy ten-year-old with vengeance in their heart. Caleb nodded eagerly. “Yes. Captain.” Sky pointed. “Caleb, you’re bait.” Caleb’s smile faltered. “Wait, what?” “You look approachable,” she said. “You have golden retriever energy. People will chase you.”

He felt nothing but shame then. "Heavenly Alliance members, heed my order!" The next second, Cayden roared, "We will capture Skylar Blanc today, no matter what cost it takes." The ten thousand Heavenly Alliance members got to work immediately, channeling their internal energy and brandishing their swords. They formed a circle around Skylar, surrounding him. Skylar looked extremely calm, a faint smile on his face. "Oh, wow! You've got quite the party. However, you might not be able to catch me tonight. You might even come upon a tragedy."

Mel adds with a giggle, “He’ll probably figure it out in like two seconds.” “But he looks good in black,” she adds. Sky’s smile softens. “Always.” Mel rests her hands over her stomach. “Damion’s would be C.A.L.M.” I scoff. “That’s like calling Jackson an angel.” “I love you, but that’s … impressively bad,” Sky chuckles. “Or brilliantly poetic.”
