Roy was gone. Putting down his wine glass, Cameron felt something amiss. He looked to the door and asked hesitantly, “Do you know Roy Chester?” Willow kept her head down. “No.” Cameron was not surprised with her answer since Willow was just a junior employee of a small trading firm. Perhaps he had read too much in the situation.

“They….they tried to take everything. I managed to get away, but they’re still after me. His eyes narrowed, but like I wished, he didn’t ask any more questions. The project was called "Project Echelon", which aimed to create a new type of vampire by using the blood of the descendants of the Echelon Clan, an extremely powerful and rare vampire clan. The project is led by Damian, an evil vampire who wants to rule the world. He is working with a group of humans called "The Black Coats" who are willing to become vampires in order to gain strength and longevity.

Anna remained perched on the stone altar, the white shroud clinging to her skin, but her gaze was fixed on the space between the boiling iron pot and the old woman. Standing there was a shadow that didn't belong to the dead or the living. It was a young woman, translucent and radiant, her hair the color of midnight and her eyes the same electric blue that had defined Anna’s life. She looked so much like Elara, but the age was wrong,she was a snapshot of a girl who had never been allowed to grow old. The shadow girl pointed a delicate finger at the Crone, then at herself, and finally at Anna.

She continued cleaning me, washing the water from my hair, drying my shoulders with a thick cloth. When I was warm and wrapped in a soft blanket, she pulled a stool closer and sat beside me. “You should understand something,” she began quietly. “Lucar was born into blood and loss. Long before you ever stepped into these woods.” I listened, my breath shallow. “Years ago, before he was even old enough to shift properly, the rogues attacked this pack,” Mira said. “It wasn’t a border skirmish. It was a massacre.”

That was where the scent led me to. I kicked the door open as I spotted blood on the floor. My eyes widened in shock as I saw Camilla close to the door, blood spilling from several places in her body. Hair stood on the ends of my skin as my eyes glowed with anger. My gaze locked on Damon's as his men laughed hard in my face. I saw the badges on their shirts. One was his Beta, and the other two were his Gammas. How could Gammas, the private messengers of the moon goddess, be involved in such a violent act?

"He took my life, my identity, and now he's living with my name, my degrees. How can I just let that go?" I gave his back a comforting pat and met his gaze. "In a few days, when the weird end of days rolls in, we'll make him pay." Jim gave a small nod, his skin cooling down, no longer fired by my blood. Right then, I noticed something odd, the weak Haunts that had barely any strength were suddenly frantically feasting on my leftover blood. Their once translucent bodies filled with vigor as they started to circle and swoop around me. "I've got a plan!"

Raverine smirked. “You brought your dogs…” Raverine mocked. Calil stopped from taking another step. “Be careful, they like to hunt birds.” Before Raverine could even make a reply, the two vampires swiftly left him in blues and bruises. It was as though the shadow within the alley moved and attacked Raverine before he could blink. That’s the reason why these kinds of vampires are called shadow vampires – they become one with the shadows. Raverine coughed after his body took the blow and held the wall for support.

Camille murmured. Hunter huffed, shuffling his front paws excitedly. Camille wasn't sure he understood her but she was certain she understood what he was after. She was still wary of the unusual creature. It was hard not to be when the taego looked like a hybrid of a number of apex predators. His tail was thick enough to break someone's leg and his claws looked like they could do some serious damage. And yet Hunter acted more like an overgrown lapdog. Perhaps she had been wrong to think this creature was totally dangerous. After all, so far the only thing she had seen Hunter destroy was a chew toy.
