She passed Mamie as the other woman screamed and the scuffle of a fight filled the night. Her heart swelled with hope as the sight of the canyon seemed to grow closer. She thought they would make it. They’re going to kill me!” Daphne cried out, her voice breaking as she struggled against them, her panic escalating. She began clawing at her neck harder, trying to rip away the imaginary suffocation. The nurses whispered among themselves before deciding to move her to the observation room. “Let go of me!” Daphne screamed, lashing out at anyone who came near. Her fear turned feral, her screams raw and piercing. I stood frozen, piecing it all together. She had been betrayed before by her sister, and her husband who had set her up to die. But what had triggered this now? What had she seen?
