Breaking The Ice Between Us
I looked up at him, trying to read his face, see if this was a joke.
It wasn’t.
His expression had softened, but there was still that hunger. That weight.
“I—” I started, then stopped. Swallowed. “Yeah. Okay.”
“Good boy,” Captain said with that crooked, cocky smile of his, the one that curled at the edges like he’d just won a bet. Like I was a prize he’d known he’d win eventually.
What the hell was it with him and knowing exactly how to rattle me with two words?
