These men feared me, respected me but fear did not erase curiosity. When the doors finally slid shut behind the last executive, i allowed myself to breathe, the glass walls reflecting only my own image back at me. Perfect suit. Controlled expression. A man untouchable by the world, but could be destroyed by a curse. The pain surged again, stronger this time. Another piece of garbage removed from the earth. Dimitri turned to his men without looking at the girl again. "Take care of this shit," he commanded. "Get the captives loaded. I want every trace of this operation cleaned up within the hour." Then he grabbed the girl's arm, not roughly, but with absolute certainty, and pulled her away from the chaos. His men rushed to obey, bundling the remaining captives toward the waiting vehicles. Dimitri walked out of the warehouse with the silent girl in tow, and for the first time in his life, he was genuinely curious about another human being.

She did not turn. "Good," she murmured. "But they're setting up for siege," he said warily. "They intend to occupy the sanctuary." Now she faced around. And her eyes—those voidlit eyes—spoke of old hunger. "Let them occupy it. I wish to witness it shatter." She extended her hand. And in her palm—a fire danced. But it was not hot. It was black. Dead flame. The First Fire—tamed only by cursed bloodlines. Constrained by ancestors. Writhing now in her hand like a living curse.

Alpha Kaine, who hadn't been aware that the lady had opened her eyes, was a bit shocked before he came back to his senses. "What's wrong Catarina?" He frowned. "I'm afraid it's not going to go as we've agreed." The woman sitting whose name was Catarina said, "Why?" Alpha Kaine frowned as he had a sour feeling. "I'm afraid the curse is acting more effectively and at this rate, you'll have no more than a month to live," Catarina sighed. Hearing her words Alpha sighed and didn't say anything but merely turned to look at the mountain of skeletons.

She ran her index finger along Sienna’s face and continued, “You; my Luv never died…” What Serena said made sense to Sienna. Rubbing her forehead, she muttered, “I never felt like I died either… technically I don’t know what death feels like but it just felt like me when I found myself here… I felt cold, lonely, and claustrophobic…” Serena was impressed by her analysis and decided to give her a bit of more information. “When Alaric refused my proposal three years ago, I was furious. So, I cursed him.” Walking around Sienna in circles, she continued, “Eventually, I realized that he won’t be mine even if his mate died. So, I twisted the curse so that his mate is trapped in my prison.”

Then the doctor ran in as we stepped back and Xavier growled as he was male, unmated and unmarked as far as we could tell. "I came as quickly as I could, alpha, what's going on?" he asks, looking at the unconscious girl in front of me. A gasp of fear and shock escapes him and he backs away. "You have to kick her out!! I cannot treat her! She's the Cursed Rogue!! She matches the description perfectly! Alpha, she cannot-" I snapped. "SILENCE!" Xavier roared. It was rare for our wolves to actually speak on their own like that without their human counterpart, but in this instance, I was right along with him. The doctor instantly closed his mouth and bowed his head in submission.

Her thoughts felt tangled, pulling her in directions she did not want to follow. “You do not know what I am,” she said. “No,” he agreed. “But neither do you.” That unsettled her deeply. Elsewhere in the fortress, Alaric stood alone in his private chamber, staring out into the night. He had left Elysia’s room because remaining there had become dangerous. Not to her, but to himself. The curse lay beneath his skin as it always had, a constant presence he had learned to live with. It was absolute. It did not warn. It did not fail. It killed instantly and without exception.

The world outside looked like a cottage core dream. Selena turned around and grimaced.
