With a nod, I retreated slightly, awaiting instructions from my boss. "Ms. Magsandingan, is it?" the fair-skinned man spoke again, breaking the silence. My gaze flickered to Francis, who merely sipped his coffee, seemingly unconcerned. "Yes, Sir," I replied, keeping it brief. "A lovely name. I'm Carl, by the way." He rose to his feet, extending a hand in greeting. "Carl Silvena." I hesitated, my eyes darting from his outstretched hand to my impassive boss, before finally accepting the gesture. So, this is the man from the elevator. The boyfriend, most likely. A wave of unease washed over me at the thought.

He skips cheerfully away from me, a stream of light illuminating his figure from above the sea of darkness. Wait a minute. Carl never calls me Naomi. From day one, he always called me mommy. -"Who are you?" I ask, sitting up. -"She did say I couldn't fool you." Carls impersonated figure stop, turning to face me. -"She? Who is she? And who are you?"

I slowly looked at Nancy. "What do you know about Carl?" I asked her. And as she answered me, it seemed that all the sounds around me disappeared to listen to her attentively. She did, she told me what he did, why he often met there, what he used to order to eat and drink. She told me facts about his personality: serious, unemotional, an enigma almost, passionate and calculating about his work, difficult to accept job connections and she was very clear on that aspect, almost hiding an old tantrum. She was clear and confident about how right he was in choosing the people he met with, and she said it while also hiding a bit of disgust at that fact.

Carl asked with a look of surprise on his face, puzzled as he could not figure out why. Creases appeared on Nicole's forehead. 'It seems that he didn't understand where I was coming from. Carl is still a young man, and yet, he has never gotten to enjoy a life of peace and beauty. After all, he has constantly been training and doing missions all over the world. It would be nice for him to just stop and take a break to explore the world in a different sort of way.'
