Nothing more. Until movement caught my eye. I lifted my gaze, my throat tightening when the screen sharpened into chaos. A front yard. Cameras flashing like fireworks. Police cars lined across a manicured lawn. And at the center.... Caroline Sinclair. Her wrists cuffed, her immaculate hair disheveled, her face twisted not with shame but with fury. Two officers flanked her, steering her down the steps of her mansion while reporters shouted, microphones thrust like spears. The chyron screamed across the bottom:

My fingers trembled slightly, but I forced myself to type in my password, trying not to rush, even though every instinct screamed at me to hurry. My inbox opened. There it was. ‘Report on Caroline Dalton’ CONFIDENTIAL My heart slammed against my ribs. I clicked. Page after page filled my screen, her address, work details, schedule estimates, photographs taken discreetly from a distance. The first picture stopped me cold. It was Carrie walking into a sleek glass building, her hair tied up, her expression calm and focused. She looked… beautiful. Mature. Strong. She looked like a woman who had survived hell and built her own heaven.

"There's no need to do that, Mr. Hawkins. Isn't she Caroline Evans, the distinguished competitor from the Novitius Contest? Everyone in Osbury knows her since she's the person who only pursues Mr. Eddy." Jules looked embarrassed. "This is Vivian, the assistant director of the design department." Caroline didn't take Vivian's words to heart. She extended out her hand. "Hello. Let me introduce myself again. I'm Caroline." Vivian didn't take Caroline seriously at all and shook Caroline's hand condescendingly. "Vivian. Vivian Patterson." Caroline looked back at Jules. "I'll be leaving now. I'll meet my colleagues at the design department on my first day."

At the woman who came into my home believing she’s helping us and slowly, painfully, I feel myself unravel. I smile. I don’t know how I’m doing it, but I smile…wide, warm, gracious…the kind of smile a daughter-in-law should wear on Christmas evening, even when her chest is cracking like thin ice. I force my lips upward as Lydia steps aside with a triumphant sweep of her hand. Caroline looks to be in her early to mid twenties. Pretty in that delicate, unsure way. And already showing…a small, unmistakable bump pressing against her golden gown.

“That woman…” “Didn’t you see that she arrived with Brielle and the others just now? She’s probably one of Royal Star’s newest artists, but given that she’s connected to Mr. Hoffman, I wonder who she is!” “I know her, I’ve seen her on television before. She’s some big shot if I’m not mistaken, and her name is Winter Shaw.” “Then, she and Mr. Hoffman…” Winter was delighted at how everyone was exchanging comments among themselves, and her gaze remained on Charles as she smiled. "Uncle Charles?”

She is a famous model who often becomes a model for luxurious brands."
