The book had pictures of skulls with smoke coming off them, their eyes glowed red. Human bodies bent at strange angles. The pictures definitely resembled what I'd seen happen with the man in the forest and with Abby. Several different kinds of names were given, but demura wasn't one of them. There also wasn't any information on how they could be killed. "I think so."

Maybe I could make sure it never consumed me—or anyone else—again. Edward found me still awake by dawn, the book open across my knees. “You didn’t sleep again,” he said quietly, rubbing his eyes. I looked up at him, guilt pricking my chest. “I’m sorry. I couldn’t stop reading.” He sat beside me, brushing his fingers over the brittle pages. “What is this?” “Mara gave it to me. It’s about the old bloodlines—the Flameborn, the Shadewalkers. I think it explains what happened to us.”

Or just slightly?” Macey shrugged as she takes one book from Calderon's stack and unfolds it to have a look. “How about you?” “I... do.” “Hmm?” If there was one thing Calderon was sure of, it would be; he has clicked on Macey's interest once more. The girl's eyes were glimmering in the dim lights of the corner they sit in, but he could see its shine.

Taking a deep breath, he averted his gaze to the books seated next to them. Using his free hand, he grabbed one. “Supernatural Being.” With his lips curled, he scanned them from back-to-front cover. Immediately after, his mind drifted without prior warning. Something about the titles probed his guts. He just didn’t know what. Should he believe these zombies and supernatural beings were true? If not, how could he explain what he’d seen the night before?

Draven Draven is an author who writes paranormal/supernatural which includes vampires and werewolves, and ghosts. Her works include The Immortals Saga vampire series and the Bane Werewolf Colony series. She’s working on a revenge crime series of short stories and a science fiction series. The house was still, dimly lit from a small bulb in the hallway. But as I turned the corner into the kitchen, I froze. He was there. Mr. Carson.
