My complaints fell on deaf ears, and he left me to start reading. My first choice was about werewolves. I was already involved with one, so it was only natural that I would want to know about them first. To my surprise, the book had nothing to do with learning about them. All it had were recipes and literature on how to kill them. I guessed this was the hunter's version and side of the supernatural world. I browsed through the others, and they were all the same. When he sat back down, he switched on the desk lamp and blew out the candles. “I found something very interesting,” he said, picking up a thick leather-bound manuscript from the far corner of his desk. “In here.” He opened the book and thumbed through the pages. “This is one of the most comprehensive volumes about vampires I've ever found. It has a large chapter on grafhym.” Leesa watched him anxiously, wondering what he had found that concerned her mom. They had already decided her mom might actually have encountered a one-fanged vampire—perhaps Professor Clerval had discovered something that proved it. But what she heard next was even better.

Now that I knew of the author, it was time to see the content. I pulled over off the road and stopped the car. The visibility of the storm had increased, making it impossible for me to continue driving safely. So, instead, I opened the journal and started reading. My eyes skimmed the words, keeping in mind that I was potentially reading from the perspective of an unreliable narrator. And soon enough, I found myself enraptured by the scenes they were depicting. Human on human wars, pacts between humans and supernatural beings, werewolves, Kindred…Human Hunters.

I walked along the rows of shelves, my fingers trailing lightly over the spines of the books as I searched for something new to read. After a few minutes of browsing, a book caught my eye…”The Encyclopedia of Supernatural Beings”. It was an old, thick tome with a worn cover, but it looked intriguing. I pulled the book from the Ilf and settled into one of the comfortable armchairs by the window. I flipped through the pages, my curiosity piqued as I read about all sorts of supernatural creatures…some I had heard of, and others I thought were nothing more than myths. There were detailed descriptions of vampires, witches, werewolves, fae, and other beings, but what truly caught my attention were

Edith was in the history section. Her hands were skimming through the rows of books stored neatly on the shelves. Edith was looking for books and articles about urban legends, myths, and other supernatural things. Edith carried a stack of books in her hands. She stepped towards the table carefully as her vision was obscured by the books she was carrying. Arriving at the end of the section, Edith bumped into something hard in front of her. The books she was carrying fell to the floor. Edith crouched down and looked at the messy books on the floor until she heard a familiar voice in her ears. It was like she had heard that voice before. Edith ascertained it by raising her head.

I smiled gently. “You have a warrior’s body.” I ran my fingers down a particularly ropey scar down her side. “What was this one from?” “Bobby Brown,” she said. “A werewolf that liked to hunt human children. He had a thing for their hearts. He’d barbecue them.” She shuddered with the memory. “He had killed my client’s nephew. Took me a week but I got him. Brought his heart to my client as proof.” She spoke matter of factly, no pride in her voice. She might not be proud of herself, but I was impressed. I had heard of Bobby Brown and had heard of the hunter that got him. I didn’t realize it was her.
