Castles Crumbling Novels & Stories

Thank God the Langstons don’t rule Upper Castles. In Amaenia, there are ten regions, and each region is ruled by a seat holder. Upper Castles, where we live, is ruled by the Caddels. Our neighbour, The Capital, is the central region of the country and is ruled by the Albertines— the country royalty. The Vandenbergs rule North Ventrise, and then the Barringtons in Barnsley, the Whitlocks in Wells Spring, the Hogwoods in Hillstone, the Hansleys in Hathbourne, the Silvius in Southcove, the Castellans in Chesterfield, and the Langstons in Lancastre.

I clear rubble that has settled into configurations so stable it seems like the ruins themselves resist my efforts. The work is backbreaking, soul-crushing and endless. For every beam I manage to set back into its proper frame, two more seem to shift out of place. For every section of wall I rebuild, another develops cracks. The castle fights me at every turn, as if it knows what I have become and judges me unworthy of restoration.

SAINT PETER’S CASTLE "What the fuck?!!!" he spat, struggling against the restraints. The fog was lifted with Caelan death and the people began running about as the heavy threw things off their places. Declan knew what was coming everyone knew.. The sacrifice wasn't made, Thaross wasn't given his food and so he was here to destroy. And slowly, the castle cracked, breaking and collapsing as he rose. Tharros, right from underneath the castle.. And a mob of souls floated through the air into his mouth to grace his presence.

The walls groaned and trembled, as if protesting the violent upheaval that threatened to tear them apart. Together, Maya and Mage navigated the chaos of collapsing walls and falling debris. The once-stable castle now seemed like a fragile shell, its grandeur crumbling in the face of nature's fury. Chandeliers swung perilously from the ceilings, paintings crashed to the ground in shattered frames, and statues of all materials – stone, marble, bronze, even precious diamond – toppled from their pedestals, their forms shattered and scattered across the floors.

The sight of it stirred something in my chest—a deep, simmering rage at what had been done, and a gnawing unease at how easily it had all crumbled. Jacob’s hand flexed by his side as he looked up at the castle. “They really did a number on the place,” he muttered. His cold, almost lifeless stare still haunted my mind, giving me goosebumps. I rode my horse up a hill, and once at the top, a vast valley lay before me. My breath caught in my throat as a vast valley stretched out before me, and in the center lay the ruins of what was once Starling Castle. The pile of rubble was massive, and the stones sat inside a wide moat. Though some of the old stone walls still stood, the entirety of the castle was a crumpled mess on the ground, a stark reminder of the chaos and destruction that had taken place.

Please, he begged to the Moon Goddess, please let them be safe. As the fog thinned more and more, the castles’ surrounding and details became more prominent than before. Eerie dead trees surrounded the area of the clearing and around the castles walls, dead thorny bushes lay around the trees roots, the steps leading up to the front stone door which had the top half destroyed, broken to almost nothing. Brown wilting vines had crawled up the walls to the crumbling, old tiles on the roof, some vines worming their way into visible cracks in the walls and just barely covering the patches of moss which were scattered all over the castle walls. His fangs grew out of place as he prepared to protect himself and his friends from any harm that may come their way. The castle was a couple of yards away now. They could see the old charred stone walls, which were black and crusty like the pathway beneath their feet. Hazel looked to the far left, where she saw the aged portcullis hanging rusted and dull. The vestiges of a stable stood rotten and disused, and tarnished leather saddles lay propped against the decayed fragments of a wall. "They are all gone!" Cedella was in pain. "The Pegasuses are all gone."

Her trembling body leaned against the door, no longer able to support herself on her shaky legs. "ANYONE HERE! SAVE ME! P-please s-save m-me" Her voice merged into whisper at last, feeling her hopes getting crushed. Hiccups were leaving her mouth continously. Her body flinched hearing playful whistles from her behind. "Done with your adventure, baby?" Edward chuckled, sauntering down the staircase with taunting smirk, his hands dipped inside his pockets, buttons of his shirts open yet the navy blue shirt was on, giving peak to his toned chest.
