I darted my eyes away quickly-- "You promised," Al said all of a sudden. "What?" I paused in surprise. "No question asked," Al smirked, holding out his hand to me. So the thing about horror stories is that-- The fear kicks in only at dark nights when you are alone, not when you are at the crowded theater or on the bright street. Emma sat curled up on her bed, hugging her knees to her chest. The dim glow of the moon seeped through the window, casting pale silver light over her trembling hands. Her heart still pounded against her ribs, the remnants of fear gripping her like a cold chain that refused to let go. No matter how much she tried, she couldn’t erase the memory of today: the rough hands that had tried to grab her, the laughter that rang in her ears, the sheer helplessness that had rooted her to the ground.
