My fur gleamed under the moonlight as I sprinted forward, my paws barely touching the ground as I raced through the woods. “You need to find her,” the voice said inside me, calm but urgent. “You must save her before it is too late. Before he takes her.” “What’s happening?” I demanded, my thoughts racing as fast as my body. “Aria is in great danger.” My heart pounded harder. “The one who has taken her is no longer the man she once loved,” she continued. “He rose from death because of a dark power. That corruption has consumed him. It controls him completely.”

“I...accept!” A strange force field surrounded only Cedric and I and we were transported to an unfamiliar place. It was dark and filled with red smoke. “Welcome challengers.” A voice floated through the air. The red smoke took the form with a woman. “You have chosen to participate in the Four Trials of the Forsaken Apex.” “Chosen is a strong word.” Cedric muttered. “I don’t even know what the hell this is.” “Your four trials are to get four objects. A Minotaurs nose ring, the talon of a Griffon, the hair of a Mermaid and the tear of a Phoenix. Then you must climb the Shadow Precipe and-”

I’ve got to try. Stretching out my hands over his body I tell myself this is no different then taking off that shackle. I think I can do this. I begin releasing my power and drew a connection of each light to a finger. Closing my eyes I could feel each orb as my power touched it. When I feel every orb I lift them up. I can tell there is a connection, like an on and off switch just by the touch. Just like that I cut the connection off. Opening my eyes as I place my hands together as all the little silver orbs fall into my hands.

I rushed into the emergency room at once. I felt so bad as I took in Sophia's weakened state. "Mom, I'm so sorry. I couldn't find Caleb." I could not bring myself to tell Sophia that Caleb had refused to come with me to the hospital. "You don't have to lie to me, Esther. Caleb is my son. I know him better than anyone else does. He must be with that woman again. "He chose to forsake me, his mother, because of that woman. What an ungrateful child!
