Auden’s Blessing
“I thought this year’s birthday would be a little different… but all that’s changed is the amount of cream doubled?”
“Flowers, fine wine, and cream—people should learn to be grateful.”
“Sia, your birthday is in two months. Handle it however you like.”
Sia jumped up and leapt into Tis’s arms. “Darling, I’m so scared!”
“Alright, don’t waste time. First, get her onto the balcony.”
Tis patted Sia on the shoulder. Suddenly, she seemed to understand and nodded. Then, together with the rest of them, they lifted me, kicked open my bedroom door, and tossed me onto a pile of soft, snow-white cushions on the balcony.
